Severe dyskariosis :(

Hi everyone. I am looking desperately for some support. A year or two ago a smear test came back abnormal. A follow up colposcopy revealed moderate dysakriosis. When I went back for a further one (this maybe April 2018) it came back clear, the changes were said to be hormonal.

I had a follow up colposcopy last month. The results say severe dyskariosis, with risk HPV, and the punch biopsy taken at the same time came back clear with no abnormality.

Obviously am terrified. What does this mean? I am not sure if I even want to know. Just looking for some hopeful words from somebody who has been through similar :(

Sorry I meant to include this in original post so sorry to drip feed. I had a miscarriage in September, I don't know if it's related.

Hi OP. Severe dyskaryosis means that the cells of your cervix have shown abnormal pre-cancerous changes. If they continue to change in this way and are left untreated they may turn into cancerous cells.

I know it sounds scary. But it is a good thing that you have been going regularly to your smear tests as now your doctor can follow this progression and intervene when necessary. These pre-cancerous changes caught early, like in your case, usually have good outcomes!

Hello there. I too have had this and was scared too. After a year I went back and they said I had HPV but no cell changes. I’m due back very soon after another year to see what’s happening. I worry about it too but try to tell myself it’s better to be going and being watched then never going for a smear. The whole system is about preventing cancer and we are very lucky to be able to have it available to us. I think it’s lack of understanding that scares us and the key is to ask questions and educate yourself on it all. I didn’t have a clue about it before as had 2 clear smears before the issues began. To help clear the HPV I’ve been trying to avoid stress, eat well and take a Wellwoman multivitamin everyday. I’m hoping it has helped x have you had any treatment on your cervix?

Hi OP- will you have any follow up from this- i.e.. LLETZ treatment or another smear in 6 months? The letters make it sound scary but if you can talk to a doctor or nurse at the colposcopy clinic they will be able to explain it all to you.

I'm out the other side after several abnormal smears, LLETZ and finally low grade cervical cancer followed by a hysterectomy and feel very grateful for the screening system. The odds of high grade cells becoming cancer are low and it is also linked to your immune system- but if it does develop and is caught early it is very treatable!

Thank you everybody for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. I have never had results like these before, in summary it says I have severe dyskariosis, high Risk HPV but the biopsy taken at the same time came back clear with no abnormalities, so due to the discrepancy they are discussing it at their next pathology meeting in February and will contact me to discuss management?

I also don't understand how in the space of two years I can have moderate dyskariosis, then a clear colposcopy, and now severe dyskariosis. It's all so confusing.

I had what was referred to as high grade dyskariosis. I had to have the LETZ procedure. My next two smears were clear. Have one coming up so will see what that one is.

I haven't had any treatment yet, as the moderate changes I had last time were deemed hormonal and when checked again 6 months later had resolved. That's why I am wondering if the miscarriage I had a few weeks before this colposcopy affected the results?

I don't mind if I have to have the lletz. In the last 2 years I have had so many people prodding about down there for various reasons I am used to it now, and just want it over with.
