Hello

I had a hysteroscopy on Friday for a polyp to be removed, turned out there was no polyp and doc said everything looked normal! I was so relived! I was on my 3rd day of my period when the procedure was done. The doc was happy to just send me off no need for another app however it's been 3 days and I'm still bleeding bright red blood with 2 clots that were slightly smaller than a 5p coin the bleeding is not heavy enough to soak pads it's more there when I wipe with discharge no foul smell been having cramps but not to bad that I would need pain killers! I'm really worried and would just like to hear if anyone's experienced the same or if this is not normal! I can't sleep worrying

Please help Confused

Hi, I'm due to have one of these next week. The leaflet does mention that there can be bleeding/light spotting for up to a couple of weeks. How is it now? Did you have the procedure awake or under ga? I'm dreading it x

I had a hysteroscopy recently and bled for 2 weeks with little cramps and spotted further 4 weeks because of Mirena. The initial bleed was because of hysteroscopy, something what the doctor told me. So may be it is just normal to bleed after the procedure.

@ahran2k was your mirena put in or taken out? Mine is coming out at the same time as a hysteroscopy (strings have gone awol!)

ahran2k · 22/01/2020 08:16

@emmathedilemma mine was put in. Are you swapping for a new one at the same? If you are just getting it removed then your periods might get heavier temporarily ( at least that is what I have heard). Any kind of hysteroscopy will result in bleeding for a few days with or without Mirena. This bleeding is usually light. Your period which will normally come when it is due would be heavy for the initial 2-3 cycles after Mirena removal.

It’s coming out because it’s not really working (had it put in to deal with heavy bleeding caused by fibroids rather than contraceptive purposes) so not getting it replaced. It needs to come out before uterine artery embolisation for the fibroids - I’m guessing because there’s a risk of them breaking up and discharging in lumps (grim!)

ahran2k · 22/01/2020 11:51

That happens with fibroids, they just push the Mirena out. But a UAE is still better than Mirena. If you are having it then you won't have to deal with heavy periods or hormonal side effects and you get to keep your uterus. It is a win win situation. Best of luck for your surgery.

I’d quite happily get rid of said uterus right now!! It’s nothing but trouble ;)

I bled for two months after a hysteroscopy. At around about ten days it was incredibly heavy.

It only stopped because they put me on Provera but nobody seemed particularly bothered that I had continued bleeding.

In all the research I did at the time, I believe bleeding and clotting up to two weeks is the norm.

Just thought I would update!

I hade the procedure with no pain relief or ga!! But I didn't feel hardly anything just a little bit of tummy ach like period, really was nothin at all! The bleeding has finally stopped 7 days after and I'm all good and well! No problems what so ever! Guess I just let anxiety get the better of me xx
