Heavy periods after baby

I'm currently having my first period after the birth of DS. It's been 7 weeks since I delivered. Lochia lasted about 3 and a half weeks. I haven't had my 6 week check yet, it's on Monday so I'm sticking to pads to be on the safe side. It's the heaviest period I have ever had.

I'm worried that this is my new normal. It's not so heavy that I need medical assistance but my periods were always pretty average before and this is a nightmare. I've had to put a towel down on the couch because I'm bleeding so heavily. I wondered if this was common with the first one and that there's hope everything will go back to normal?

How was your bleeding overnight? Are there clots? Are you breastfeeding?

I’d ring 111 I think, as it’s so soon after you delivered.

Mine was so heavy at 6 week pp that I nipped out for an hour and soaked through a heavy nighttime pad and my jeans.

They’re fine now, they got gradually lighter but the first was the worse by a long way.

@flatoutpanic no clots that I've noticed maybe 1/2 little ones but I always had small clots before. Still quite heavy but not to the point that I'd think haemorrhage. I wasn't able to BF no. Everything I've read says that as I'm not breastfeeding 7 weeks is about right.

@TriangleBingoBongo thank you, luckily not that bad but really not great. It was one of the few things about being pregnant that I actually liked, no periods.

It sounds fairly normal then. My periods definitely got heavier after having children (sorry!), but could also be age-related for me.

I was afraid you'd say that. It won't be so bad once I feel able to look at tampons again and maybe even a mooncup if I'm feeling brave.
