Postpartum hair loss - super sensitive scalp - normal?

Hi, I'm not really sure which category this falls into so I apologise if it shouldn't be here.

My baby is 4 months old, for the last couple of weeks my hair has been falling out like crazy, it's EVERYWHERE and driving me mad! I can't put my hair up out of the way because my scalp is so sore it feels really bruised. If I move my hair at the scalp in a different direction it really hurts! Is this all normal? Or should I take a trip to the doctors?

The hair loss is totally normal, I didn't experience tender scalp but I wouldn't be surprised it was connected.

I’m also four months post partum and have a sore scalp - I didn’t connect the two things though?

The amount of hair falling out is shocking, I could stuff a pillow Envy < not envy.
My hairdresser suggested some expensive marks and Spencer shampoo that’s working to make my scalp fine again, and it works but only if I use it frequently.
If you go to the doctor will you report back?

I had this and it never went away- I use moogoo now.

Nourkrin lengthens the growth cycle of hair to stop it falling. it won't do anything for the hormones driving the hairless but might mitigate against it.

Similar experience here. I am going to seek out a sulphate free shampoo and see if that makes a difference

Baby is 8 months old and I can see lots of hair is growing back

It's normal, mine started coming out in clumps around 4 months (still is breaking off when I brush it) and my hairline became very very sensitive. I went to my Dr's because it was seriously upsetting for me. I'd suggest you do the same, because they can help.
They did blood tests and put me on iron tablets and recommended vitamin d supplements. I'm literally 2 weeks into taking them and although I still have bald patches, the regrowth is thicker so it is tufty and sticks up, it looks better than it did.

Thank you for the replies.
I'm gonna go to the doctors Monday and will report back with what they say.
It hurts so much it's giving me a constant headache. I just can't touch it. Never had any of this with my eldest 😔

Hi, I know this was a while ago, but did you get anywhere with this with the doctor? I am currently 4 months pp and am losing a lot of hair and have a sore scalp, but with the virus it's tricky to get a drs appointment! So any advice would be appreciated Smile x

Crabbypaddy · 02/02/2021 22:39

I’m 6 months pp and mines is horrendous to the extent I have bald patches around my hairline. Same thing happened with DD 9 years ago and it did grow back. This time I’ve bought shampoo conditioner and vitamins from Holland and Barrett and they seem to be working great, can see new tufts of hair now thankfully
