Irregular periods

So I've never had a regular cycle, but since I've had my DD (now 2.5years) my periods have gone amok. Cycles are varying between 22 days (this month) to 56 days. I originally blamed breastfeeding but I've not BF for nearly a year now. I'm not using hormonal contraception. Periods are light to moderate, not particularly painful so nothing which makes me think I've got fibroids or endo. When do I see a GP?

Has anyone had any success with alternative therapies to regulate their cycles ie accupuncture, herbal supplements. I have started taking a multivitamin recently as I've been extremely lethargic but not taken it regularly enough to notice a difference yet.

Feeling a bit fed up with it all today

You need a diagnosis first and foremost, get this and proceed accordingly from there. Some herbal remedies can actually make underlying hormonal problems like polycystic ovaries worse so at this stage at least do not take anything like this for now.

I would go to the GP because problems with the thyroid gland (you mention lethargy here) and or a condition called polycystic ovaries cause irregular periods to arise. Blood tests can and should be done to properly assess what your hormone levels are like.

BTW I have never had a regular cycle either; in my case the cause for that was polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Your symptoms warrants further investigation.

Thank you! I've put off making a GP appointment as I thought because my periods have always been irregular when not on contraception they would just shrug their shoulders. Will book one after Christmas
