Having issues with receiving results

I had a laparoscopy in August. Went for my follow up with my consultant around 7 weeks ago. Whilst I was there he carried out blood tests to check whether I had clotting disorders and to check ovarian reserve. I tried calling my GP to get my results and was informed that I would need to get them from the consultant. I tried contacting his secretary to no avail. I emailed her 5 weeks ago to see if I could get my results before my follow up in April but received no response so I chased this 2 weeks ago and received an email asking for my NHS number, which I responded to on the same day. 2 weeks on I still have no response. I have had issues with my consultant's team (not him himself) and have had to have these issues dealt with by PAL's. I've done everything I can to get my results as I'm worried that if I do fall pregnant before my follow up I could have another miscarriage, when it may be as simple as having injections to prevent blood clotting.

In my situation what would you do?
I don't really want to go to PAL's again because I'm sure they have far more important things to be dealing with but I feel that I may have no other choice as I'm having no luck going through the normal channels and I've tried to be as patient as I can.

TIA

I really think you should go through PALS. They'll just send a prompt to the consultant I would think.

Could you make an appointment with your GP and ask them to write to the consultant to request the results? To be honest the consultant should have sent a letter to your GP outlining what treatment you had and any results. I have been going through recurrent MC investigations as well and everything I've had done has been sent via letter with a copy to me and a copy to my GP. Not all consultants cc you in but they should all be informing your GP. I would chase this up with them. Ringing the consultants secretary has also worked for me in the past. Good luck!

Thank you both! I could try speaking to my GP. However when I've called they have just told me that there's no results and the GP doesn't normally get them. I've tried ringing the consultant's secretary and I just got no answer and it's taken me weeks to get a reply out of her and even then I've had to chase. It's just really frustrating because if I find out I'm pregnant and I don't have the results I don't think I could deal with another loss, especially if it's easily preventable. I'm due to test just before Christmas. So I'm anxious to get them before people start going on annual leave.

I have a blood clotting issue that was causing me to miscarry.

My GP actually ran the clotting factors tests for me. I’m wondering whether your GP might be willing to do this. I’m not sure how much they cost the NHS to run.

If you do get a BFP before you manage to get hold of the results you could start taking Aspirin 75mg and higher dose folate (that’s 2 out of the 3 medications that my obstetrics consultant wanted me on).

Lots of women undergoing fertility treatment end up self medicating with higher dose folate and low dose aspirin but you could read up on it and make your own judgement.

I started heparin at 5 weeks and that was early enough for me.

It's an NHS consultant @INeedNewShoes so I doubt my GP will repeat the tests. Last time I was pregnant I took aspirin, but I'll definitely look into the higher dose folate too. I'm at a point where I'll try almost anything.

Thank you!

Is it the recurrent loss panel you are waiting on? In that case mine took around 8 weeks to come back so could it be that they aren't actually in yet?

London91 · 14/12/2019 14:25

@Thumbellini I have no idea, when I went for my follow up consultation after my op I saw the consultant and he asked where in my cycle I was as he felt that I should be being tested for secondary infertility because I have no problem conceiving so he repeated tests to check ovulation and then did the extra tests also.
