Reassurance needed - Cervix

Looking for some reassurance for anyone that might have knowledge on the subject. I had my 6 week check up today following birth and the GP has had referred me to hospital as my cervix looks abnormal, quite red and a bit of white I think she said. I also have a slight prolapse. It was a fast 2 hour labour if that is relevant.
Has anyone had anything similar happen that didn't turn out to be the worst outcome? I am suffering quite a bit with worry/anxiety particularly concerning health of me and my baby.

I haven't had the above but didn't want to read and run, I hope someone comes along soon with a similar experience to offer reassurance and advice... In the meantime I know it's easy for me to say but please don't worry, sending you 💐x

Firstly, it’s brilliant you had a thorough 6 week check. I didn’t with any of mine. It’s great they’re checking out any concerns: your Gp is not a specialist so is just referring you to one to make sure you’re well and fine.

I haven’t had this exactly, but have had abnormal cells found on a smear. It was all cleared up with a simple procedure and wasn’t a problem at all. Try to be reassured by the fact that an expert will be looking up close at your cervix to see if everything is as it should be.

Are you doing pelvic floor exercises?

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 05/12/2019 19:42

Thank you both. Yes I am doing my exercises, I have downloaded the squeezy ap. it's so nerve wracking with a young family.
I can't seem to find any positive alternative as to why it might look abnormal other than the worst...

Goodness, they didn't even check my stitches at my 6 week check

It’s great you’ve had a thorough check up, and good you’ve been referred- if it is a prolapse try and get a physio. I’ve successfully managed post both prolapse with physio - I also had a lovely Pilates instructor come to the house when I had a newborn for a couple of sessions which were invaluable.
Also- if your health visitor is friendly please talk to her about the anxiety. It is completely normal and really helps to talk.
Good luck!

Try not to worry about your cervix. I bled like a mofo at my smear so went to get it checked out at the GUM clinic. It's something to do with cells that grow inside the cervix coming outside. The red doesn't necessarily mean bad things. Go get it looked at though for your peace of mind.

Thank you so much all for your reassurances.
I do remember having a particularly painful sweep which left me stingy for a long while after in pregnancy. There was a lot of blood after. Wonder if it's related.

I developed a cervical erosion during pregnancy. I was worried too because it was visible at a smear test, and also bled slightly after sex. But when I was referred the consultant explained that it was a quite common thing to happen as a result of pregnancy hormones. They did all the necessary tests, and said it was harmless, and It cleared up after a couple of years. Before I went to the GP I was googling like mad and really scared it was something sinister, so I can sympathise with you about the worrying!

dementedpixie · 05/12/2019 22:42

I had cervical erosion at my last smear too. Can make the cervix look red (I googled some pictures)

Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy · 06/12/2019 02:45

Thank you for that - it's good to know there are other things that can be causing the issue. My GP didn't seem able to to suggest anything other than cancer which is unhelpful. Thanks so much for replying it really helps to reassure me.
