Hysterectomy and stairs

So it looks like I'm going to have a hysterectomy due to very heavy erratic periods probably caused by a 12cm fibroid that's too big to be removed. B*lls.

I'm trying to figure out the logistics of getting home afterwards. Can anyone tell me if, after having had the proper bikini line surgery (fibroid too big to be removed via keyhole) one can go up stairs on the first day home? I'll have been in hospital for about 5 days before being sent home.

I live in a 4 storey house, kitchen in the basement, bedroom and bathroom at the top. I could probably have a bed put in the basement by the kitchen, but then I wouldn't have access to the bathroom.

If I can just climb all the way up on my first day back, I wouldn't have to come back down for several days, as (hopefully) DH and DCs would be bringing food up for me.

Are there tricks one can use to go up stairs when you can't use your ab muscles? Bum shuffles?

What are your experiences of getting home after a hysterectomy?

Thanks everyone

I had a full abdominal hysterectomy 9 days ago, I stayed in hospital for one night and come home around 24 hours post surgery. The stairs were not an issue when I got home as long as I walked one step at a time and that was 24 hours post surgery. 5 days post surgery I was up and down a few times a day as I was bored to death sitting upstairs I even mangers to walk home from my mums house about 150 meters away so I really wouldn’t worry.

I set up a bed downstairs which worked well for me as bathroom was on the ground floor

We had a space saving stair case to our bedroom and i couldn't manage that

I came home after the next day though so 5 days in hospital may help you

I slept downstairs for about 3 weeks after mine

Also, 5 years on from it, it transformed my life and one of the best things I ever did
