Surgical termination - advice needed - warning

NC for this thread. Lots of triggers - please don’t read if squeamish.

I had a surgical termination last Thursday and am experiencing some very heavy bleeding - it started last night (TMI, but I had a strong cramp, passed a big clot and it woke me up). It’s very heavily clotted. I’ve just had to run to the loo as a load came out and essentially filled my pad. I have some cramping still.

I can’t ring the helpline to check it’s normal as I’m at work. I’m just nipping to the loo to change my pad every hour. Does anyone know if this is normal? I’ve used about 6 pads today already. Thanks in advance.

I don't think that's normal. I had surgical management of miscarriage, which is more or less the same procedure. My bleeding was very light indeed. Filling a pad every hour and large clots (any of them 50p sized or bigger?) is not a good sign at all. You need to talk to someone about this quickly.

Swearwolf · 05/11/2019 14:45

I'm sorry but I think this is too much blood. You need to call the helpline. Are you feeling ok in yourself?

NCplease9999 · 05/11/2019 14:51

Thank you for responding. Clots definitely bigger than a 50p. I can actually feel them when they come out (sorry this is disgusting).

I’m feeling fine, bit crampy but not terrible. I really can’t leave work at the moment but will call the helpline when I finish later.

OP if you can’t get through on any helpline please go to A&E or a walk in centre as this is extreme bleeding and could be an infection or retained products. I would leave work early to sort this out. Hope you feel better soon.

MindyStClaire · 05/11/2019 15:04

I think you need to seek urgent attention. I had surgical management for miscarriage and was told to call in immediately or go to A&E with those symptoms. I experienced nothing heavier than a period. I hope you get seen soon and all is well. Flowers

I too had surgical management last year and I also agree ... that's too much blood.. I did bleed for 3/4 weeks after and told should only be about 2 but it was like a period nothing major.

Forget work your health is more important. X

DerbyshireGirly · 05/11/2019 15:30

Get yourself checked out tonight OP.

Troels · 05/11/2019 15:42

I've worked in this area years ago, a soaked pad an hour is too much, you need to go back in to be checked.

GeePipe · 05/11/2019 16:01

Go to a&e op. On sunday i had a miscarriage at 11 weeks and hemoridged so badly i was rushed to hospital with blue lights and sirens. I lost over 3 pints in a short space of time with huge clots and filled a pad in 15 minutes. Im still bleeding now at home and have been told if you fill a pad in an hour go to hospital so thats what you need to do. Sorry this is happening to you x

NCplease9999 · 05/11/2019 16:06

@GeePipe I’m sorry for your miscarriage.

Mama1980 · 05/11/2019 16:38

Please do get to the hospital op. That's a lot of blood.

QueenWhatevs · 06/11/2019 09:02

@NCplease9999 how are you OP?

NCplease9999 · 06/11/2019 14:04

Hi all. Thank you for your concern Smile it’s very kind of you.

I called the advice line when I got home, and they said that the clots were concerning but (as the flow had stopped) the blood was not indicative of any haemorrhaging. They say that two towels an hour is when it is a concern. I am to monitor it and get back in touch if it gets worse again. They said it could just be “material” that had not been removed coming out.

I am not at all crampy today, and it’s much more like a normal period, so I will see how it goes. It was very scary though. Thanks for all of your comments I really appreciate it x

Delighted to hear things are better today OP. Take care of yourself.

Slappadabass · 06/11/2019 15:19

When I had a medical abortion (I know it's different) I was told anything larger than a 50p I should be seen.
Did they give you a number to call? Always worth getting a professional opinion

Slappadabass · 06/11/2019 15:20

Sorry, posted before I saw your update.

Hope you are ok today OP.
