Pelvic floor health

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem to me...

Through pregnancy I never had any issues until I went into labour. I thought my waters broke but was told later that it was from my bladder! During labour I couldn’t pass urine and had to be catheterised. Baby was back to back and labour was not progressing. I’d had an epidural and could not feel contractions. Baby kept going back up after every push. I was taken to theatre and received a forceps assisted birth and an episiotomy. My external scars soon healed but my pelvic floor was a wreck! I couldn’t hold anything before getting to the toilet for weeks after the birth. I’ve been receiving physiotherapy for almost a year. Although improvements have happened. I can hold and get to a toilet with no leaks now, I still get a heavy sensation. I often forget to do kegals but have just downloaded a Squeezy app to help remind me every day. My surgeon told me no more children for at least two years which I wasn’t planning to anyway. I have one child and would like to have another when baby is around 3ish.

I’m so worried my pelvic floor issues will be worsened (likely at least in the short term) or it would be dangerous to baby. I haven’t sought medical advice from professionals yet as I’m not yet planning this second pregnancy.

Anyone scenario would love to hear your stories as it’s not easy to talk to people about these embarrassing issues face to face x

I had a similar birth to you (back to back baby, got stuck, had a spinal, episiotomy and forceps)

Externally healed well but pelvic floor isn’t great. I’ve seen a physio who’s said she’s surprised I’ve not had accidents as she’s rated it a 1 out of 5

Regarding second pregnancy I’ve found myself unexpectedly pregnant again after 9 months and am considering a c section as I’m terrified of what another vaginal Labour will do to my pelvic floor

I’ve got no real advice, but just to say you’re not alone

You are a brave lady. I wish you all the best with your pregnancy and birth. You must be feeling very nervous about it. I hope as told to wait at least two years to let my body recover, I’m hoping to give myself that time. Keep doing those kegals anyway. They do always say the first birth is the hardest so hopefully you’ll have a straight forward one this time.

How is the pregnancy going so far?

This pregnancy is straightforward which is a blessing so I’m hoping the birth is or they agree to the c section without an argument Grin

Definitely giving yourself the time to heal is a good idea! That was my plan too...it just didn’t work out that way this time!

Sending you Flowers and support

I had a straight forward birth no episiotomy or forceps and my vagina is ruined. I’m so loose sex is pretty awful. Kegels make no difference, I wish I had a c section I’m only in my 20s and feel my life is over.
