What should I do?

So - I have suffered from heavy periods and irregular bleeding since my periods started at age 12. During my teenage years and early 20s I tried every contraceptive pill going to try and regulate things, unsuccessfully. In my late 20s I had a Mirena inserted which was like magic! No periods at all until I had it removed to have my children.
Since having my babies I have suffered from horrendously heavy periods, needing to change sanitary wear twice an hour for the first couple of days. My first reaction was to have the Mirena again - this caused horrendously low moods, continuous bleeding and after six months was expelled due to a heavy period. I only found this out during my ablation when my gynaecologist was due to remove it. (I thought that I had been feeling brighter, it all became clear as to why!). I was also sterilised in conjunction with my ablation as the risk of pregnancy is too high.
Unfortunately the ablation failed, I am left with the same heavy and irregular periods, low moods and also (although not looking to have more children) a permanent sterilisation.
Has anyone else seen experienced something similar? At the time of the ablation 2.5 years ago my gynaecologist offered me a partial hysterectomy. Would this help me? I know it would stop the periods however what about the moods? I have been offered ADs at various points in this journey however my low moods are a direct result of my irregular cycles and it feels as though it's the wrong treatment. Has anyone had any investigation into hormones rather than the AD route?
I am now 42, and am eagerly looking for similar stories and hopefully some successful outcomes to point me in the right direction. I am lucky enough to have private healthcare so am able to access options at relatively short notice.
Thanks for reading x
