Getting a lump checked.

I've got a lump in my breast. I'm sure it's probably a cyst. I've had one before, confirmed by scan, but not in the same place. I'm just wondering how people manage if they are prone to these? I don't really want to bother my doctor every time a new one pops up if it's going to be a regular thing, but should I?

If I was you I'd get it checked, just for my peace of mind Smile

Good luck x

Hiphopopotamous · 28/09/2019 22:53

How old are you?

Any new lumps and I'd have no trouble referring you in for scans. You don't want to miss a breast cancer in someone with a history of cysts!

alwayschecking · 28/09/2019 23:09

I'm 37.

I think I've had others. I'm sure the one I got checked out has reappeared once or twice, so not bothered by that one. I guess I'm just thinking that the law of averages says that one day I'll assume it's a cyst and it isn't 😕

I have quite a few cysts but I always get anything new checked it's not worth the risk.

I went last week as I was having dull pain and they checked and found a Fibroadenoma, just awaiting biopsy confirmation.

Get it checked you're not wasting anyone's time.

ToLiveInPeace · 29/09/2019 06:36

Yes. Please get checked, every time and early on.

alwayschecking · 29/09/2019 17:17

Okay, I'll give it a couple of days to see if it disappears, but if not, I'll call.

Thank you.

Sorry @Hiphopopotamous but what do you mean? I was told the fact I've had a cyst doesn't mean I'm any more susceptible to cancer. Or maybe it was a a fibroadenoma I had. What's the difference? God, I'm a total idiot. I'm freaking out about this one today. It just feels different now.

@alwayschecking if they drained it it was a cyst and if they left it alone then probably a fibroadenoma- I have a fibroadenoma.

:)

alwayschecking · 01/10/2019 11:33

Thanks @Mumma1984. They offered to drain it, but I just left it.

I'm just back from my docs appointment.

There's actually one which is a defined lump and she felt that fine. I've also had a "thicker" area right below my armpit, but she couldn't really feel that. Getting sent for a scan anyway. It was never really a lump, but I should probably have gone as soon as I found that.

@alwayschecking I feel so annoyed about breast lumps now, I almost don't know what I'm looking for anymore and I'm over anxious about it, I've been to the docs loads worrying but tbh I might go again because beneath my armpits on both sides feels like of weird like tender and bumpy ish I guess but I have small boobs that are bumpy ish so I have no idea anymore and the GP's are just getting annoyed at me!

alwayschecking · 01/10/2019 21:59

I'm sure they're not @Mumma1984 but I can totally see why you feel that way.

It was a different doctor I saw today, so i didn't feel I was boring her!

I am feeling a little anxious tonight. More about the "thick" bit she couldn't feel than about the lump I actually went for.

I know it's terrible to think like this, but it's pretty much a given that out of all my close friends, probably at very least 1 in 3 of us will get it at some point. It's just a case of who, and when.

@alwayschecking I'm trying to go today because all round under my arm feels bruised - I don't know if that's meant to be worrying, I have it a little bit on the other side but worse on one side, driving me a bit mad that since I had my baby 17 months ago I seem to have non stop either issues or anxiety over my boobs it's so stressful and I never know if the GP is fobbing me off because they know I'm anxious !

Mumma1984 · 03/10/2019 12:54

She referred me to the clinic but on a 4 week wait because she thinks it's nothing but she said any changes justify a referral which was great because I feel a little less silly and like I can settle a bit because someone is listening x

alwayschecking · 05/10/2019 15:45

@Mumma1984 I'm glad you feel better about being listened to, at least. We constantly have it drilled in to us to check and keep on top of it, so to be be made feel silly for doing that should never happen.

I've had my appointment through for the 14th. There's the appointment letter and also a leaflet saying I'll possibly get a mammogram, scanned, and a biopsy. I could be there between 2-4 hours.

Is that normal?? This isn't what happened last time and I had to wait about 2 months to even see the consultant then.

I'm shitting it a bit now.

OP posts:
UncomfortableSilence · 05/10/2019 16:20

Yes completely normal, all referrals here are done on the two week wait and you are told to expect to be at the clinic up to 5 hours, doesn't mean you will be though I was in and out in an hour and a half and had a consultant meeting, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy.

It's a one stop shop so by the time you leave all initial tests have been done and you'll have a good idea of what if anything you're dealing with.

alwayschecking · 05/10/2019 16:26

Thank you so much @UncomfortableSilence Thats good to know. I hope everything was okay for you.

Yes thankfully the biopsy confirmed the suspected Fibroadenoma.
