Persistent thrush

I’ve had thrush since around June/July and it was made worse by sex with my boyfriend where it was really sore and itchy as well as a fair bit of discharge. I have since been given various different types of treatments and NOTHING HAS WORKED. Just over a week ago I was put on a 7 day course of intravaginal treatment to be taken twice a day and I’m no longer sore etc but the discharge is still here! I’m due on my period tomorrow and starting to wonder if I get it worse every month when I’m due on, although it doesn’t seem to go at any time of month. I’m at uni now and just feel Rubbish because I’m nervous to go to an unfamiliar doctor’s and the nearest sexual health clinic appears to be half an hour away. I took probiotics for about four days but forgot to carry on, especially as I read that they weren’t particularly helpful, and I’m not the biggest eater so I can’t massively afford to entirely change my diet. Sorry for the long post I’m just at my wits end and just feel so emotional about it at this point. Thanks.

I forgot to add. I went to the doctors twice in a week and had three swabs , all came back satisfactory! But surely slightly yellow discharge isn’t normal? Particularly because I feel more comfortable with a panty liner all times of the month.

You wear panty liners every day anyway?
That wont help.
You need to get tested for a number of things other than thrush.
Your bf also needs tested and treated.

Hobbes2019 · 22/09/2019 14:22

I have been tested for a number of things and come back satisfactory. My boyfriend and I are no longer together and I’m not currently having sex. Without the panty liners it’s uncomfortable.

Are you on the pill? Or hormones? That can make it worse, maybe try coming off those for a while if you are. Also shower instead of a bath and don’t use any products

Epwell · 22/09/2019 14:53

try taking grapefruit seed oil

Newearringsplease · 22/09/2019 14:55

I was the same. I started to boil wash my knickers that worked a treat

Also, get your blood sugar tested. Recurrent thrush can be an indicator of diabetes.

Are you sure its discharge and not urine leakage?

Hobbes2019 · 22/09/2019 16:49

What’s urine leakage? I didn’t know that was a thing?

Been on the mini pill since Christmas

There are loads of threads on here about sanitary wear causes thrush and itching.

if you are using scented pads? I'd get rid of them. and find non smelly ones, or washable ones.

be aware even some non scented still have a smell to them.

Thankyou, I’ll speak to a doctor before I come off the pill. In terms of the panty liners, sometimes there’s too much discharge to just wear underwear that it’s just uncomfortable. Do you recommend doing it anyway

I got it regularly and it turned out my oestrogen levels were low, which meant during penetration i suffered mini breaks to the skin which caused thrush. Sorted that and it disappeared. Worth getting hormone levels tested!

NewYoiker · 23/09/2019 15:35

No suggestions but checking in! Have you been tested for diabetes? That can cause recurrent thrush.

Also can I ask what the intra-vaginal treatment was?

Hobbes2019 · 24/09/2019 11:27

I can’t rememeber! I’ve used canesten for sure and something like flumazole? And other ones. I haven’t been diabetes tested although am relatively healthy so wouldn’t have thought it was that. The thing that is confusing me is that my results for STD’s and thrush and BV have all come back satisfactory twice! But surely yellowish discharge is not normal.

Have you been tested for this? It's really common but some gps don't test for it. I'd definitely ask for a test for this!

I haven’t! I assumed it was thrush because that’s what I was initially diagnosed with! Can I ask my GP to test for that?

Read this xx

YoureAQuizardHarry · 25/09/2019 01:28

Personally I think it's this.. I work in a gum clinic and it's really common. Please get tested. One week of antibiotics and your ordeal is over.

Please let me know if you need anymore info or anything x

Hobbes2019 · 25/09/2019 09:18

Thankyou so much. I was going to leave it a week because I’m currently on antibiotics for tonsillitis. Considering it’s already been just under two months, one more week shouldn’t hurt should it?

OP posts:
YoureAQuizardHarry · 25/09/2019 09:55

@Hobbes2019 no another week shouldn't make a difference. So glad to have been of help Smile

Hobbes2019 · 25/09/2019 10:14

Thankyou. I kind of hope it is that because If it’s not I have no idea what to do next!
