Leaking milk... not pregnant!

It’s a tmi post. Apologies!

My youngest is now 2.5, and she wasn’t breastfed. I’m on a variety of medication for stuff, going from regular pain meds, antidepressants and tablets to regulate blood flow.
I’m not overweight, and lead quite an active lifestyle working out 4 days a week (building up slowly).

I take the combined contraceptive pill and take two months together (doctor has said I can do this). I stopped two weeks ago for the 7 day break, had bleed as usual, and commenced the pill again on Thursday.

Since then my boobs have been in agony, are swollen, and I’ve discovered that they are both leaking milky liquid (so can only assume to be milk).
Only way I can describe it is that my boobs feel so swollen it’s like they’re on fire.

I’ve been on all my medication for 2 years so would’ve thought I’d have had side effects from them before now. I know I can’t be pregnant due to the bleed so what else could it be?!

(I am planning on going doctors following the bank holiday weekend if the problems continue, just wondering what I can do in the interim!)

When you gave a break from the pill uou have a withdrawal bleed, not an actual period. You probably need to POAS.

As above - you should take a test.

You say you are on antidepressants - any chance you take Risperidone too (it's an atypical antipsychotic but sometimes used for mood disorders too)? It can cause lactation.

I’ll eat my hat if you’re not pregnant

Beaubird83 · 24/08/2019 18:07

I had a negative poas yesterday so didn’t bother testing today, really should have added that in sorry!
I’m on a low dosage of Prozac, it is in the side effects but I’ve been on it for so long I’d have thought I would’ve had symptoms before now?

This was a question to my sil when she had missed a few periods and they were going to send her for tests on her piruatory gland. Turned out she was 5 months pregnant.

This is a symptom of prolactinoma. It affects both sexes and i have known two people with it. ~A girl in my class at school who was so embarrassed that she confided in no one and eventually went blind through the tumour pressing on her optic nerve. Years later my son developed one, quickly treated with medication, but seeing the scan and the proximity to the nerve I was relieved we had got a correct diagnosis quickly.

Please make an appointment with your GP

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2019 09:50

Please go and see your gp. Without wanting to alarm you but leaking milk is a sign of raised prolactin which can be a symptom of a tumour on your pituitary gland. A friend of mine has recently been diagnosed with this (non malignant) but had put off going to the gp and then had been fobbed off with her other symptoms (tiredness, occasional dizziness, headaches) as being normal symptoms of a stressful working life. It's not normal to produce milk if not breastfeeding or pregnant.

PerkyPomPoms · 30/08/2019 09:55

Definitely go see your GP

Beaubird83 · 30/08/2019 13:36

Just updating, I have booked an appointment with my GP and having bloods done Monday; thanks for all of the replies.
They want to rule out prolactin, thyroid, miscarriage and cancer via bloods, so definitely glad I haven’t waited and ignored it hoping it would pass.

Glad they are taking your concerns seriously, I'm sure it's nothing but good for you to get it checked out

Try not to worry Thanks
