Long story short - I am under a gynae, very slow process and not getting a hysterectomy any time soon (got to rule out something else with another department first which is taking forever)

I have attached a photo of the monster tena pad (with loo roll as comparison) I am wearing that still are not really containing The Flood. This week I have bled on 3 pairs of (black) trousers through to one cardigan, one office chair, my bed, my PJ’s and numerous towels down to protect sofa/chairs. I am sick of doing laundry now. I also accidentally blocked the toilet at work because I had so much bloody tissue

I have a very tilted uterus and it’s all pooling then suddenly expelling, out the front, up the back and out of the sides of me. I’ve tried everything. All pads bunch up at the sides around the crotch/vag and leak out that way, most of the time it’s where I am sitting at a bad angle

I can’t use tampons or mooncups I am so sensitive and sore and dry (at the same time as bleeding, weirdly)

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I feel your pain, OP. I had exactly the same. Flooding, gushing, blood clots the size of my hand, soaking through clothes and chairs. Bleeding like this for months at a time. All due to fibroids. 2 surgeries later and I now have my life back!

IsletsOfLangerhans · 16/08/2019 20:08

@PookieDo it is. Feel free to pm me if you want some moral support. Sounds very much like we have similar problems. I too am in a position where hysterectomy is the only real option to get rid of the fibroid, but gynaecologist isn’t keen due another potential issue. Hence trying the Esmya. Out of interest, does your ‘phantom gushing’ get worse mid cycle? Or is it just any time?

BertieBotts · 16/08/2019 21:33

Tena pads probably won't work well for periods especially if "gloopy" as they are designed to absorb wee rather than blood. You might look at maternity pads? That was my first thought. And when you first give birth they tend to layer two or three for you, try that. It will be bulky though. Perhaps try the tena pants over the top. One pack would be cheaper than period pants and you can check if they rustle. I had an always product after having my last baby which was a pair of pants with pad incorporated and they weren't rustly at all. Reminded me of a pair of pull ups for babies. Unfortunately they don't do those in the UK.

SerfNTerf · 16/08/2019 21:36

@PookieDo have you considered cloth pads? There are a couple of makers who specialise in pads for incontinence which are designed to absorb large quantities very fast - Minivivi is the bees knees IMO!

PookieDo · 16/08/2019 21:40

I just want my womb to be incinerated 😭😂

The phantom gush is often just some clear sticky liquid (or my imagination). I’ve no clue why it is coming out of me and yes at different times of the month! Sometimes there is so much I start to wonder if it’s piss, but it is clear and sticky and odourless

big hugs op im on the copper coil and low womb i use 2 sanitary towels, and a tampon, for the first 4 days,

MeadowHay · 17/08/2019 22:48

Dunno if you've ever tried this but what about maternity pads? I used Lil-Lets mat pads for the first few weeks after DD and I didn't have a single leak with them. I was really impressed. As someone else who has had/has very heavy menstrual bleeding I was totally prepared for lochia and it didn't phase me, but these pads were great. I was considering buying some to wear for my actual periods but then I got tranexemic acid prescribed and that has been a huge help and means I can wear 'normal' sanpro again (albeit still wearing Tampax 'Super+' tampons on the few heaviest days). I dunno what they'd be like in terms of visibility/noise etc under 'normal' work clothes though because I only wore them for the first few weeks and I barely left the house then and lived in loose joggers, PJ bottoms, and harem pants and was only around family so didn't care if they were visible or anything etc.

All pads seem to bunch up between your thighs that is often where I begin to leak, and sometimes an up the back of your bum crack blood explosion

I am going to try a bit of everything. If I try tena pants I need to take them home in my bag and I will also try the period pants!

why don't they fit you with a Mirena coil in the meantime? Its crazy you have to put up with this. Completely unacceptable.

Period pants are worn with pads. I think I read somewhere that someone thought they weren't.

They have a non rustle lining which is right up the front to the back.

But seriously, you ought to be banging on the consultant's door and demanding action. Do they KNOW you are in this state?

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 18/08/2019 15:30

That's terrible, I feel for you. I had problems with flooding too. I was using tampons and pads at the same time but having to change at least hourly, and get up several times through the night too. I ended up getting a Mirena which has almost stopped periods completely. I'll probably have that until menopause.

PookieDo · 18/08/2019 19:21

@JinglingHellsBells

I’ve had 2. Both fell out spontaneously. I sound like I am making this up, promise I am not 😂

No1 fell out suddenly in a gigantic pool of blood about 2.5 years ago and revealed the presence of my fibroids. Fibroids were lasered off with womb lining about a year later. Periods continued though so I was unlucky with ablation. So got another mirena in hoping to reduce periods. Bloody thing fell out over Easter bank hol this year, due to more huge fibroids. Just can’t be in there because the fibroids too big and dislodge and bleed a lot. There is no way of knowing when they grow back but mine seem to grow very fast

Consultant thinks it ‘could be worse’ because before I bled continuously for months and in the past few months I now bleed for 8 days (v heavily) then stop then bleed again at ovulation for 3 days. Apparently this is not too bad. She’s a woman too! Even the sonographer at my internal scan was like ‘your womb is a right state’ (not those exact words 😂). I’m so anemic but the tablets constipate me and give me piles. Senna is too unpredictable for me to use reliably

She won’t operate as she thinks I have a pituitary gland problem and need that sorted out before I have a big op. She said as they are in the muscles now it’s a bigger more complex op to get them than when they are in the womb lining only, out or a hysterectomy. I don’t qualify for any sick pay in my new job for a while yet so I have that to worry about with any op. I would like to try some drugs, I’m going to ask her next time

I think she might be right, I have a lot of other symptoms. Very hard painful boobs (fibroids tissue), very hairy face/chin, dark butterfly melasma over my whole face etc. I have a hormone problem

Try Always Ultra Night - then (it sounds a bit weird) roll up some toilet paper and tuck it between your cheeks - it stops the blood running backwards and gives you a couple of extra seconds to get to the loo!

In terms of medication - I have tried tranexamic acid, it worked for 2 months, then didn't. I did Esmya but then it was withdrawn because of the issues with liver damage.

I have recently been on gonadotrophin therapy - its a product called Prostap that you have injected every 4 weeks - its been great! No side effects, no periods (hurrah!). But, you can only have 6 jabs -- if you need further you have to accept that it is not licensed for a second round, but it may buy you some time before they decide whether to give you a hysterectomy or not.

My hospital won't do a hysterectomy because my bmi is too high. The gynae is hoping that the menopause will arrive soon and that should "solve" everything!

KingMidasAteMidges · 21/08/2019 15:14

Tena pants (or own brand alternative) may be the answer. They don’t rustle. They aren’t visible under clothes. They were a life saviour after the delivery of my baby. You can actually sleep, move, sit down and recline on the sofa without worrying. The flow is very very heavy following a birth, but not sure how it compares to yours. Good luck, hope you find a solution.

Another alternative is reusable fabric san pro. It will have better absorbency, so less likely to drain off to the side or up the back etc I did notice a big difference with cloth nappies vs disposables with my babies. Cloth contained stuff much better.

Modibodi do boy shorts which are pretty snug around the tops of your thighs.
I'm sorry op that you are going through this.
