menstrual migraines and combined pill

I suffer from menstrual migraines either a few days before a period or during or both. I occasionally have one at ovulation time too. Basically they are all down to my hormones.

I feel so ill before and/or during periods with cramps, nausea, tiredness, brain fog and the awful debilitating migraines. I am on propranolol twice daily and sumatriptan when I have a migraine. This takes the edge off the pain but not that effective.

My doctor has prescribed the combined pill to take without a break to keep hormonal levels constant without the 7 day break. I used to take the pill for years and it seemed to help but I am nervous about going back on it due to increased stroke risk and in case it makes migraines worse.

I tried cerazette(progesterone only) years ago and it made my migraines shocking so I came off it.

Does anyone have any experiences of taking the combined pill for menstrual migraines and did it work for you?

I feel for you and am in a very similar situation to you. I have been prescribed the combined pill Rigavidon. After googling it, I have worried myself into not starting it so would like to hear from anyone who successfully stops their periods and, therefore their migraines using a combined pill.

Just found this thread. I suffer awfully from menstrual migraines and I take Ovranette combined pill. Keeping my hormones at a constant level helps so much and virtually eradicated the problem for me. I let slip accidentally to the sexual health nurse once that I have migraines and she tried to take me off the combined and put me onto POP - Cerazette. I reacted awfully. Went back to another sexual health clinic to get the combined pill back and just made sure not to mention my migraines. I know it sounds awful and obviously wouldn’t recommend anybody else doing that but I seriously couldn’t function without it Blush

The combined pill even the lowest dose (20mcg not 30 or 50) made me suffer with excruciating permanent chainsaw in head level pain.
