Laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis

Hi I'm having an operation next week for my endometriosis. I have chocolate cysts on my ovaries and they're doing it laparoscopically. Has anyone had this? How was it and what's the recovery like? I'm quite nervous so please no horror stories!

I've had three. All okay. Worst pain was the shoulder tip pain from the trapped gas they used to blow up the belly. Move around as much as you can after and drink peppermint tea.

I had this. Pain not too bad, shoulder worst as previous poster mentioned.
I was recommended to move around as much as possible, and use a sun lounger to sit (you can recline so your openings aren't crunched up).
Hope all goes well.

Mine was a 2 week recovery off work but I think most people manage a week. I think because they had rummaged around moving my ovaries etc I just felt period pain like aches for a while afterwards.

But I will tell you my endo was described as "aggressive" by my gynae. I think it may also depend where your deposits are. I have lots of scar tissue that they couldn't remove so I don't know if that made a difference.

And why do they call them chocolate cysts? Why not call them blood filled? Chocolate cysts sound cute, but we both know they aren't.

Get some peppermint tea in for the trapped wind, take a pillow in the car for the journey home so you can put the seat belt over that and I liked hugging it against myself. Good luck Flowers

Ha ha so true I've often thought that about calling them chocolate cysts Grin
Thanks for the advice. I have IBS so I'm dreading the trapped wind feeling! Will do what you said.

yes the shoulder pain was the worst bit - please take your painkillers. I decided to stretch mine out a bit. phoned the ward and they said 'have you taken the painkillers' I said 'no …' I took them and they massively helped. Grin Everyone I know tries to stretch helpful medicine out.
It was fine overall btw. good luck

I had this for a single large ‘chocolate’ cyst but they also cleared up a few other deposits that they found while in there.

I have to say I found the recovery hard - tougher than a (later) emergency CS - but I think this was due to a drain that was fitted to deal with excess bleeding. I found it very hard to straighten up, and difficult to walk more than a few steps, for a few days at least. I really needed the 2 weeks off work.

Having said that, in 2 weeks all was well. And so good to have the cyst removed!

The worst of it was the tummy pain but that was probably because they fitted the coil at the same time, my body didn't care for that. Had a very scratched throat from the tube too. Thought I was fine after a week, went to work, ran after a student, tore internal stitches. Got that sorted, felt okay, Thai boxing class, same thing happened. Just take it easy and you'll be fine. The best bit is taking off the bandage on your belly button, so gross but satisfying Smile

Thanks everyone. One week to go now!

Ooh sorry I wanted to ask did everyone feel better after they'd had the procedure. After recovery I mean.
