I was in such shock I fainted and woke to hear DH calling an ambulance.

He didn't realise what I'd done and thought I was having a fit. He said my eyes rolled back and I waved my arms.

Luckily I woke just in time and told him to cancel it.

I'd have felt such an idiot wasting their time.

I can't believe what I've done. I tried getting an appointment with a nurse today. They only have a doctor available.

Do you think they can check? I know that nurses usually deal with these kind of things. I don't want to waste their time.

I'm not sure if the pain I have is due to this or my period!!!

I don't suppose it can do any good just pulling it out yourself.

I thought I'd lost a tampon and as I've had the coil so long I totally forgot it was there.

I wonder if you had this: Vasovagal collapse/cervical shock. Apparently can be common

Thanks

It's absolutely fine. Get yourself checked. Take the coil so that they can check that there are no bits missing. If you have any sudden pain/bleeding then get urgent attention. But really you'll be fine. Can imagine it was a bit of a surprise!

Yep I was going to say vasovagal. Very common and nothing to worry about.

Don't feel embarrassed though, they present very similarly to a cardiac arrest.

To remove your coil the nurse would just do exactly the same and pull on the strings, that's how they're designed. If your worried it won't hurt to get checked out but I think it'll all be fine.

Hope you’re feeling alright now - have you pulled it all the way out ie removed it completely or do you think you’ve pulled it out a bit and dislodged it causing pain?
A nurse if she does smears etc will be able to have a look to see if the strings are present but if you think it’s dislodged causing pain you should pop to the GP as they’ll probably be more able to examine fully / order an ultrasound if needed / prescribe ongoing contraception if needed.
Also your local sexual health clinic might be able to help.

If you’ve just pulled it out completely then feeling faint is quite common and why we don’t recommend people take out their own - although it isn’t technically difficult. Go see someone if the pain gets worse or you feel unwell, otherwise I guess you need a routine appointment to sort out contraception!

I’ve pulled out my own coil, it was a few years ago tho I didn’t faint but it felt like a mild contraction
