Contraception options

Just posting for people's experiences. I can't have the regular pill anymore due to my BMI and history of migraines. the mini-pill turned me into a mood ridden psycho, I don't fancy the implant or the coil (endo and pcos so it will hurt). Which leaves the injection. What have people's experiences of this been (especially if mini-pill hasn't agreed with them).

Would a Mirena be an option?

Kanga83 · 13/06/2019 12:17

Is that the coil? If so no, I can't even have a smear or internal exam without gas and air/sedation unfortunately. I feel I have zero options.

I loved the injection, I had the 12 weekly one in my bottom and felt great. Bled for a month I think then didn't bleed again.
You say about the pain but how far in can something get before it's painful? It's just I've read recently there's something called the ring which you insert however far up you want, I don't think it matters really, and then keep it for three weeks then take it out for a weeks break? Haven't tried this one and because of your pain it might not suit you but if you don't use contraception for period relief it could be a good one?

Injection made me bleed and put on weight. The vaginal ring wouldn't be suitable as its a combined contraceptive.

Mylittlenugget, tampons and sex hurt lots so that wouldn't be an option - I accept in the vast choices of contraception my body is particularly awkward SmileI loved marvelon, then they banned it because of the migraines.

Which mini pill did you try? There are 3 different ones with different active hormones

Kanga83 · 13/06/2019 16:33

I've tried two, I can't remember which as within days the first made me so moody I couldn't get out of bed to my children. The second made me have thoughts about myself I didn't know were possible and scared me so at the moment I'm not on anything but need something. I've made an appointment with the Gp to discuss my options.

I can't take the pill and the mini pill and coil were awful. I've been hormone free for about two years now and temp instead. It's great.

Depends on your family situation, if you have kids and don't want more consider permanent contraception (him or you) if you are spacing children and it's not the end of the world if you get pregnant, a tracker app and condoms may be ok, but if you don't want kids at the moment definitely then really condoms are the only option, but perhaps a reason to work on your bmi? Its damn hard loosing weight but I've managed to get nearly a stone off by running (run/walking at first) 5km twice a week, and watching what I eat rather than dieting.
