Microgynon as a defence for murder. Anyone else had a personality transplant on it?

Been taking microgynon for just over a week after switching from cilest which has been discontinued. I'm a mess. I can't stop crying, I'm angry like I've never been before (the amount of self restraint it took not to ram my car into a twattily parked car outside the shop earlier was frightening). I'm depressed, had suicidal thoughts and simultaneously knackered and can't sleep. I hate the world. I can't connect emotionally with anyone or anything. Has anyone had shocking symptoms on this pill? I'm not taking tonight's pill and have booked an appointment with GP nurse for next Friday. I'm so annoyed as going away with DP for his big birthday tomorrow so was looking forward to awesome sex too. I'm so angry I feel like I could actually murder and feel nothing in doing it (only half joking!!!). How long did it take after stopping before you felt back to normal?! I can't take it any more! Help!

Sorry, I meant about GPs taking reproductive health concerns seriously.

I don't remember Microgynon affecting me anger-wise but it certainly messed up my health for decades. I developed multiple allergies while on it. Doctor who prescribed it claimed they were not related to the pill but years later I read Dr Ellen Grant's book, which has a whole chapter on severe allergies being caused by the pill. I advise women to avoid the pill if possible.

RuffleCrow · 29/05/2019 18:00

yes it had the exact same effect on me. Ages ago now.

Nameusernameuser · 29/05/2019 18:00

I took microgynon when I was 14-16, I had awful depression. I stopped taking it and after a few weeks felt like an entirely new person, I started going out more and just felt less foggy. I look back now and think it was entirely down to that pill. I took it for periods and it's the worst thing I've ever done.

Notflyingfree · 29/05/2019 18:12

I hear you. Happened to me too.

greyby25 · 29/05/2019 18:30

Yes. I got pregnant on it and it caused me to be a complete wreck mentally. Definitely won't be taking it again😕

frenchonion · 29/05/2019 18:32

I wish there was a simpler contraceptive method. The options are all a bit shit!

Can't remember if it was microgynon but I certainly have taken at least two different types of contraceptive pill that sent me insane. Screaming then crying then the rage setting back in and then just feeling numb. It was horrific. I remember saying to the Doctor that I felt like I wanted to peel my skin off as it was the only way I could describe the "not right" feeling. I'm on the copper coil now, but I think it's made me fat (although I know it's illogical as there's no hormones).

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/05/2019 18:40

Wow, I'm so sorry that you're having such an awful time OP.

I took Microgynon for almost 10 years and was completely fine. It was recommended by a (private) gynaecologist who swapped me over from Marvelon when he diagnosed me with PCOS. The only reason I stopped taking it was because my GP's practice nurse wouldn't prescribe it for me for cost reasons and insisted on fobbing me off with some medieval pill that was cheaper. For a while I carried on with Microgynon because I could buy it over the counter in countries I was visiting (such as Hong Kong - and even Dubai airport airside) but I changed jobs and travelled less, and was also aware that I didn't feel comfortable taking the pill without regular checks with my GP.

It's outrageous the way women are so easily dismissed by doctors (and a lot of nurses). One of my DCs also reacted badly to the pill and now has an implant which works fine for her.

Another cracker was being given cocodamol after giving birth, and me explaining to the doctor that cocodamol causes really bad constipation which is the last thing any new mother needs. He looked at me condescendingly and said "no it doesn't, I've never heard of that". Bloody moron.

I was utterly depressed on this pill. Sobbing and sobbing! It was frightening!

Star8181 · 02/06/2019 13:19

I hope you’re feeling a bit better now OP. I had exactly the same when I was on microgynon about 10 years ago, it was incredible how my mood lifted after stopping it.

I’ve had the Mirena coil put in 2 weeks ago as I’ve been diagnosed with endometriosis and it’s mean to help. Last week I had a very scary few hours where my mood was as you described, I felt unbelievably suicidal, it was horrific. My period came a few hours later and my mood went back to being normal again! I am convinced the 2 are also related and dreading next month already in case it happens again.

Badabingbadabum · 02/06/2019 13:23

It was the first pill I went on at 16 and it was awful. The difference after stopping it was amazing. It made me an emotion, irrational mess but being so young I had no idea what was happening.

frenchonion · 10/06/2019 21:38

A little (unexciting!) update but I'm 4 days into taking cilique and so far feeling great. Adverse effects of microgynon subsided about 3 days after stopping it. Phwew!

That's a great update OP! Smile

So glad you’ve swapped op. It made me crazy too.
