Mirena Coil for PMS

I am due to have a coil installed soon but am still on the fence about it.

I have heavy periods but only lasting 3/4 days and not painful at all. However I have two weeks of 6 month pregnant bloating, comstipation and boobs so sore it hurts if anyone even looks in that direction let alone touches them. My PMS is all physical I have very little psychological or emotional symptoms.

Im finding it hard to find information on the coil vs PMS so can I ask: How has the coil affected your PMS?

I was told the coil wasn't the best for PMS because it works more locally in the uterus. It's great for heavy periods but most PMS symptoms are caused by the hormone fluctuations throughout the whole body. I was recommended a GnRH analogue, which acts on the brain to stop the production of oestrogen. But that's only what my doctor said to me, might be worth asking about other options if you're unsure though.

Following with interest (and giving the post a bump!)

I'm due to have the coil fitted next week mainly to help with endometriosis symptoms but I also want to put and end to this bloat! I'm thoroughly depressed today about how bloated I am and can't fit into any of my clothes.

Awful isn't it op! Hope you get some relief!

Iv got the Mirena coil and it has helped with my periods making them lighter and less painful .. but I could spot on and off for up to 3 weeks at a time! And also i still get pregnancy symptoms tender boobs .. nausea .. and still get moody so don't think it will help with anything else apart from maybe your periods but every one is different 🙂

Had the mirena coil fitted as heavy and very painful periods. Was best thing I did as no pelvic pain and periods 90% lighter. Wish I got it earlier rather than suffering in pain for so long. I had to have mine fitted under General anaesthetic as my cervix was too tight and wasn't given option to have it awake . Other people i know had it fitted with no anaesthetic in doctors or family planing clinic. Guess everyone different.
