Breakthrough bleed on Yasmin

I have been taking Yasmin for quite a few years now, without any issues, but had a breakthrough bleed earlier this year after taking 5 or 6 packs back to back. This was accompanied by terrible cramping pains.

I thought this was due to having taken too many packs consecutively, as did my Dr who advised me not to take more than three packs back to back. However, I am now suffering another breakthrough bleed 2 weeks into taking a second pack back to back, along with the cramps.

Has anyone else experienced something like this after having taken the same pill problem free for years previously? Feeling like I can no longer trust my own body and really fed up as the cramps are incredibly painful.

I had this after several (great!) years on Yasmin. I ended up coming off it and on to something else.

As an aside, I didn’t think they prescribed it any more, due to an increased risk of blood clots? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks Dragon, sorry to hear you had the same thing - it's horrible when you have finally found a pill you get on with to then experience these issues! What pill did you move on to if you don't mind me asking?

I wasn't aware that Yasmin was any worse than other combined pills for the risk of blood clots, but its useful to know that. Probably time for me to try another pill.

It was a shame - I thought it was a miracle pill when I first went on it. I tried all the usual ones before Yasmin - Microgynon, Cilest etc.

I ended up going on Loestrin, which I learnt had a lower rate of efficiency than some others when I fell pregnant with DC1. So I wouldn’t recommend that unless you don’t mind it not working...!

I know what you mean about thinking it's a miracle pill. It seemed the perfect fit so I am gutted that it is no longer the case. Thanks for your help Dragon.

In NZ it isn’t available anymore because it’s proven to be associated with an increased risk of blood clots.

I agree it was a miracle pill and it’s disappointing it’s got bad side affects and isn’t available anymore

Thanks Suzie, I have heard this from a few people - it's quite worrying that the standards in each country vary so much! I won't be on it for that much longer, my symptoms were looked into further and I am now being investigated for endometriosis. Once they have done the op they will look to put me on a progesterone only pill which will be a new experience as have only ever tried the combined pill! Thanks for your help.
