Has anyone taken this for heavy periods? I'm interested to know how well it works.

I'm anemic due to heavy periods and 2 GPs failed to suggest it Hmm

I was prescribed it last year but it didn't work. It lightening the bleeding for a week and then it was back full. However, at that stage I was bleeding non stop so that may be a factor.
I'd had an abulation with the coil fitted prior, which also didn't work (coil fell out bleeding was so heavy)so I don't think its something doctors offer until other options have been persued.
I ended up having a hysterectomy in the end.

MinnieMountain · 18/04/2019 13:39

I might try it then.

No options were offered but I'm having my coil removed once we know DH's vasectomy has worked so I'll have a word once that has settled.

I found it didn't kick in on lightening the bleeding until about 7pm when I still was heavy all day still causing issues for me at work. I've had friends who it's worked really well for x

chimpandzee · 18/04/2019 13:42

It didn't work for me either. I was bleeding non-stop and very heavily for about 8 weeks. The only thing that worked for me was Noresthisterone which the GP prescribed after the 3rd time I saw him.

champagnebrain · 18/04/2019 13:42

It helps me a bit. Not a massive difference but I've been taking it over 10 years and I'm heading toward 50. It may have worked better early on. Periods are still regular unfortunately

PottyPotterer · 18/04/2019 13:43

I've been on it for about 6 months and it works for me about 90% of the time, wish I'd known about it years ago.

socialistmamma · 18/04/2019 13:44

I'm the same as you, anaemic/heavy periods, and I take them and they do make my period lighter but the main thing they stop is the clots (sorry if tmi Blush) and I'm not as exhausted when on so I would recommend them

poorbuthappy · 18/04/2019 13:44

I've taken it once....had some awful periods last year where I had to sit on the loo to pass the clots as I was flooding towels within an hour.

So I took it once and it stopped my flow completely. Which I was really surprised about, and then the next month I was heavier than ever.

I still have some of it but will only take in emergencies where I can't take myself off to sit on the loo for 20 mins at a time.

Hotterthanahotthing · 18/04/2019 13:47

It work for me but unfortunately makes.me.vomit soI have to weigh up the use carefully.

2Kids2Cats1BigKid · 24/04/2019 23:57

I've been on it for about 6 years as I had to come off the pill. It sort of works. Some months seem better than others but I think that's just my cycle. I still get clots, but perhaps not as big as they were. It does tend to make me feel a bit nauseous though

Howaboutthisone · 25/04/2019 16:58

Just typed a long reply but lost it! I was on tranexamic. Then mefanemic. Then both together. That didn't work. So I'm now 4 days into a 10 day course of norethisterone. Bit scary as I'm also on combined pill and both increase risk of clots. But I'm not wearing san pro for the first time in nearly 4 weeks and am so grateful for the break.
Im now awaiting results of bloods and have managed to get a cancellation appointment for a private consultant. I know I have fibroids following a scan. Hoping that's all it is and they can do something.
It's miserable isn't it!

PookieDo · 27/04/2019 15:05

I have stopped taking it because I have a 16 day period and I can’t take it for that long. I didn’t time it right this month so it didn’t help at all
You have to judge to take it just when it’s getting heavier but not too heavy. I thought my period was ending after 11 days as it was constant but manageable flow so I didn’t take any, then was suddenly whacked with flooding and clots out of the blue

Voila212 · 30/04/2019 09:43

I take it and it has helped but you have to make sure to take it when your periods start as it can take a few hours to kick in. I actually take it and ponstin as well between the both of them my periods are back to been normal.

Iamnobirdandnonetensnaresme · 11/05/2019 12:34

I've been on this for 10 years

1000mg 3-4 times a day for the first 3 days. Makes a huge difference to the volume for me, I can function outside the house!
