Thrush/Candida - looking for some motivational success stories to conquer this!

Hi! This is my first post :)

I have been struggling with thrush for over a year and a half and am on the hunt for good success stories to help motivate me to conquer it once and for all!

I initially tried the usual creams, but the thrush kept coming back. I went to the doctor, who I now thing wrongly diagnosed me with BV. I went on a course of antibiotics for BV, and after that the thrush came back even more fiercely. I tried the tougher pill, which would beat the thrush for a few days, but it just kept coming back.

I eventually tried the candida diet (cutting out sugar and refined carbs) for about 6 weeks, but found it very tough! My energy levels were low, and whilst the thrush did clear up a lot, I just couldn't stick to the diet because I was tired on it. I combined this with putting all sorts of organic lotions and potions in my bits (coconut oil mixed with a tiny bit of tea tree, garlic, the works!) but just couldn't sustain the faff of the diet and tending to my bits daily.... and now the thrush is back.

Any inspiring words out there? Have people done the candida diet successfully and managed to beat the fatigue - if so, how? If you suffered badly from thrush and are now fungus-free, I would absolutely love to hear from you. I think that if I can believe there is a light of the end of the tunnel I will be more likely to stick to the diet or do whatever I have to do with a bit more conviction/determination.

Thanks!

Hi OP,

I didn't suffer as long as you, but have just cleared up a bout of thrush I had for around 10 weeks. GP advised taking a Caneston pill (or own brand equivalent) every few days totalling 3 tablets in total. I also cut right down on sugar during this time but nothing else. The ABX will have knocked your vaginal flora balance out of whack so a good probiotic would be an idea - I used the Jarrow Femdophilus, not cheap but effective.

Has your GP done a high-up swab to confirm it's thrush? I'm surprised they confused it with BV! My doctor said there's NICE guidelines for persistent thrush so it may be worth checking them out to see what's next. After so long I would be pushing for a referral to a gynae with an interest in dermatology or vulva health as it's bloody miserable!!

Hope you get it sorted 😀

Cutting out dairy fixed mine, not sure if it was a coincidence or not but been mainly fine since then unless I'm under the weather or have eaten a lot of crap and my body can't deal with ingesting that much yeast

I used to have recurring thrush and became allergic to the oral fluconazole tablets. The consultant at the sexual health clinic prescribed one clotrimazole pessary (canesten) a day for ten days, and then one a week after that. She drew me a nice diagram of how yeast grows and said that if you only use one treatment it only kills the mature yeast and then the spores grow so it comes back. She gave me a repeat prescription but I didn't know how to get it so it ran out after about 3 months Blush Thrush came back maybe 6 months to a year later and I couldn't get my GP to prescribe the same again, so I started buying them online - the generic ones are about £3.50.

Then I had antibiotics in labour for Group B Strep (recurrent thrush can increase your risk/be a sign of GBS apparently) and since then I haven't had thrush again! Instead I've got a fungal infection that's spreading across my hands... I think I'm just a fungal person Envy not envy!

I apply live plain yogurt and it doesn’t help. A bit messy and you would need to wear a sanitary towel
There is a Mumsnet post about it www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/1159409-Natural-Yoghurt-for-Thrush

Dodie66 · 29/03/2019 00:03

That should have said it does help

I had recurring thrush for about three years (tried the diet, multiple rounds of antibiotics and store brand treatments and was also treated a couple of times for BV). A few months ago I did a course of boric acid and I haven't had an issue since. I ordered mine on Amazon, took it every day for a week and then right after sex and right after my period. If I start to feel symptoms, I insert one, and it seems to do the trick (fingers crossed).
