Pre-cancerous cells

Hi
I had a smear on 8/2/19 after my partner nagging me to go I haven't been for six years 😩. I know - no excuses right!
25/2 I got a phone call to book me into hospital for a biopsy and that's all she said really - my cells were abnormal and I'm to go to hospital on 29/2.
A specialist nurse rang me on 26/2 told me my smear showed that I had pre-cancerous cells which are graded mild or moderate-server, my results were coming in at moderate-server. 😭 and on Friday 29/2 I'll be having a biopsy to see if it's cancer already and treatment
My family and close friends are so good telling me to keep positive but it's so hard
I got out of hospital on 23/2 after three night having had a grumbling appendix then I get this.
Struggling to even get out of bed.
I literally cannot stop thinking about it.
My poor babies 👶
Anyone else had anything like this happen to them ?

Couldn’t read and not post I had an abnormal result and needed further tests once but it turned out to be ok. I was a mess of worry though.

It does sound like they’ve caught it early if it is cancer so hopefully it will all be ok but Flowers. Try to look after yourself as best you can while you’re still finding out what’s happening x

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 27/02/2019 02:58

Abnormal results are actually quite common, it doesn’t mean cancer, it means they need further investigation to rule it out. Hopefully it will come back clear, if not then this is the purpose of smear tests, to catch it early enough to treat before symptoms arise

kolakoala · 27/02/2019 07:20

They all make it sound scarier than it is. The problem with the term 'pre-cancerous cells' is that most of these cells will never become cancerous. It's a very misleading term, and I prefer, abnormal cells.

Do your own research about side effects, if you do need any treatment, as the medical system is a bit ignorant when it comes to the cervix, and how their procedures effect it, many doctors don't even realise the cervix has nerve endings!

cheezy · 27/02/2019 07:28

I had this last year. Had the dodgy cells taken off in a lletz procedure which was incredibly quick and completely painless. Normal smear a year later. Please don’t worry Flowers

LoniceraJaponica · 27/02/2019 07:31

I hope it is something that can easily be resolved. It must be such a worry for you. Flowers

Just a note - can you double check the date. It isn't a leap year this year.

hipstercat · 27/02/2019 07:36

I had the same result as you and had LLETZ treatment. It is a very minor surgery, quite similar to the smear itself, they just laser off the bad cells. It took no more than 20 minutes. I bled for quite some weeks afterwards which was very annoying, but otherwise it was fine. This is the most likely outcome! Many, many women have this done at some point. Pre-cancerous just means that if untreated, the cells MAY turn cancerous. Good luck and try not to worry too much. Flowers

Namechangeok · 27/02/2019 07:54

I had this and went for a biopsy, it was fine. Even if further treatment is required, it is a procedure to burn the pre-cancerous cells away. It doesn't mean the same as having cancer. Having this result from your smear is quite normal, the biopsy will tell you what needs to be done. It is often nothing and you will just go back to having 3 yearly smears.

I had the same after going for smear;abnormal result, had a loop which is where they burn them away. Next smear was a lot sooner but came back fine. Easier said but try not to worry xx

EllieMookins · 05/03/2019 21:25

How did it go?

I've got my colposcopy Thursday and quite terrified. They said I've got severe dyskaryosis and will need treatment and they've moved my date forward two weeks from the first appointment I got so not really sure what to expect, my last smear was normal and the one previous was abnormal but no treatment needed. I feel like they're all so vague, I spoke to my gp who didn't really explain anything other than go to the appointment! X

Sigoesperando · 06/03/2019 14:50

I had mild dyskaryosis and they did the treatment; thibk they basically burn the cells away; it was pretty quick and easy; my smears since have been normal. Try not to worry I’m sure it will be fine and it’s a preventative

Just got results Friday it's CIN3
Having lletz Friday
Scared
The dr who did the biopsy said she didn't think I have anything wrong
Does she say this to everyone?
I'm scared

I had this about 10 years ago. I had LLETZ which was very straightforward with only a little discomfort.

All.smears since have been fine. Hopefully this will be the same for you.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/04/2019 04:32

I had CIN3 about 20 years ago. I had to have a second lletz procedure to ensure everything removed and it was. I then had another colposcopy 6 months later and they did another smear, all fine. It's uncomfortable but very doable. Have someone drive you as sometimes having your cervix poked around can make you a bit shakey.

I had to have yearly smears for 10 years and they have all been fine. Then back to 3 yearly recall.

Try not to worry, theyve caught it in time and likely to have removed all the dodgy cells already.

IwillalwaysloveEU · 01/04/2019 05:02

I had this in 1994! Never had an issue since but I get tested every year.

Hopefully this Will soon be behind you too and really shows how vital it is that all of us get tested on a regular basis. Thank goodness your DP nagged you so much :)

shiveringtimber · 01/04/2019 05:23

I had this too in the early '90s. I had yearly tests for about ten years and now it's every two years. So far, no return of the abnormal cells. Five years ago, precancerous cells were found on polyps during a colonoscopy. I'm due to have another colonoscopy next month. I'm scared but I know colon cancer is slow to develop. Thanks

scarus · 01/04/2019 05:39

irekd hugs and hope it all goes OK on Friday. Try to put it out your mind till then.

I had CIN3 but I had the biopsy and the lletz treatment at the same time which was better I think. Staff were all super-lovely. It was uncomfortable but didn't take too long. They used a local anaesthetic on the cervix. They had it on the tv screen but I was too busy making a fuss to watch Grin

Take paracetamol before you go in. Take someone with you to drive you home as you can be a bit shakey afterwards. I was very period crampy the first night so have hot water bottle ready. I bled lightly for a few weeks. You can only use pads not tampons for a month which was annoying. I struggled picking up heavy things as well for a couple of weeks.

As PP then yearly smears. The first smears the GP becasue of the lletz they couldn't scrape enough cells off the cervix to get a test result so I had to go back to the hospital but there were no more issues 8 years down the line. Biopsy was clear as PP pre-cancerous doesn't mean cancerous.

The doctor wouldn't have indicated to you it all looked OK if they weren't pretty sure.

Hi I'm wondering if anyone else has experience this. I gave birth around 7 months ago and around three months ago my kidneys and ovaries started hurting. I thought it could have been a urine infection but test came back negative.

I'm someone that thinks the worst when it comes to my health and was just hoping someone has went through something like this and has an answer. I'm going for an ultrasound to hopefully find out what is causing this but it's in a month and I'm really worrying about it.

Thanks :)

LizB62A · 26/04/2019 22:49

I had this about 10 years ago - abnormal cells burned off with lletz.
All went fine, no issues and have had clear smears since

I got the impression that this is pretty routine so, I know it's easy for me to say, but try not to worry too much
