Why do the doctors no longer think it’s lichen sclerosus? Have you had a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis?

Also, a diagnosis of vulvadynia is just a catch-all term that means ‘vulvar pain’. It doesn’t tell you anything about the actual cause of the symptoms. Possible causes you could consider/rule out are: hormonal contraception; nerve pain or injury, which could have been caused by a back injury or childbirth trauma; using a washing detergent or soap that is irritating the vulvar skin.

There are lots of treatment options, but finding the right treatment depends on identifying the cause first.

Thanks Minta85 do you suffer from this? they have said their is no inflammation so are saying i dont have lichen sclerosus. I was out for a few hours yday now in loads of pain and swollen and red vulva. Dont know how they can say it is not inflammed. I have asked my gp to refer me for second opinion
Gp says vulvodynia doesnt usually cause swelling. I feel as if they have washed their hands of me as dont know whats wrong with me and dont want to find the underlying cause. Feel desperate in so much pain. Might have to consider a private referral.

Hi
I have had vulvodynia on and off for the past 6 years.
first of all, GPs are just monkeys in a suits. Don't listen to them, they know ... all
Get a referral to Wendy Reid at Royal free in London asap. She treates this with amitriptyline/lyrica and pelvic phisio. For swelling and irritation you can use Saginil gel
For external pain you can use 5% lidocaine ointment
also works: dilators, mindfulness, desensitization like with CRPS.
Good luck and don't trust your GP!

Are you on the contraceptive pill? I was told I had vulvodynia and vestibulitis, I was going out of mind with discomfort came off the pill and everything has improved.

Hello ! Yes, I am on BC as I have recently entered a new relationship/ I am very capable of having intercourse right now thanks to Lyrica.
My vulvodynia was caused by doctors. I have had a poorly treated recurrent bartholin cyst which was allowed to grow to a large size each time and lanced instead of performing a marsupialisation. As a result of so many interventions and infections and repeated lancings (5) I have super sensitive nerves down there and nocturnal itching, pain that is electric, buzzing, etc.
I DO know that BC can cause vulvodynia however so I will be on them for a short time only.
Peace

Opposite here - mine improved dramatically with BC.
