Lots of women have erosion, so statistically, some of them must go on to get cervical cancer.

Otherwise, no.

There was a thread about this a while back if you can find it.

It just worries me coz I have an erosion and with my minor changes too. It's stressing me out.

The nurse tells me I have an erosion/ectropion every time I go for a smear. Not sure what I am supposed to do about it Hmm It is usually something to do with oestrogen levels.

I think it probably makes it more of a faff for them to get the cells from the transformation zone. Apparently they have to put it on the form but my nurse has no idea why and I cannot find a reason.

Did you have an HPV test with your minor changes, or did they just not get enough cells to do the job?

missnjp · 19/02/2019 14:22

Nurse didn't mention anything about hpv testing at all neither did my results letter 6months ago.. iv no idea what's caused mines. Iv had ectopics in the past but unsure what's causing mines. I'm just so stressed and worried about all this right now.

Have a read of this - because it is such a short time since your first smear, it is probably just a case of not enough cells to do the test properly. This shouldn't be worrying.

If you are not sure about your results, go back to your GPs and someone should go through the letter with you.

Thanks was helpful but I'm still worried, I shouldn't have googled lol.
Nurse said erosion is normal but all my smears have always been normal up until 6months ago..

There is zero link between an erosion and cancer. I had an erosion almost 40 years back and had it cauterised under a GA. Now they tend to leave them unless they bleed a lot.

They are caused by the cells in the cervix migrating to the outside so they look red and can bleed- because they are not meant to be outside the cervix and are fragile ( that's why they can bleed.)

They are often linked to high estrogen- mine appeared when I first went on the Pill.

QuilliamCakespeare · 19/02/2019 18:17

I had erosion about 15 years ago and so far, nothing more sinister.

missnjp · 19/02/2019 18:18

I haven't been on the pills for well over 4years so I'm unsure what's caused my erosion and that's worrying me along with my minor changes to my smear. It's all new to me! I'm such a worrier and worry about everything.. google hasn't help either!!
Dreading my results when they come And I'm so stressed about it.

Hi i suffer health anxiety and i too worry a lot. I got told i had an erosion after irregular bleeding. Im 23 and had it treated and the biopsy showed hpv. I too wish i never googled as few women said they went onto get cervical cancer. However those women had abnormal smears or adenocarcinoma, cancer in the cervical canal which doesnt always get detected until at an advanced stage. I ask my gynaecologist and my doctor and they said there is no link between the two. All nhs websites say the same. I still worry about it today a year later but i was told there is no link between the two.
