Hi my sil was very upset yesterday as her gp has told her he won’t prescribe this drug for her anymore. She is 70 and looks amazing and is very fit, especially since she got a dog! She has pleaded with him as she says she feels so well on it. There is a history in her family of dementia, her mother,and two aunts and she is afraid of it and believes taking hrt has benefitted her as they all showed signs in their early 60s. Has anyone got any experience of taking Premarin? Is there an alternative she could take? Thank you.

@triplets
Your SIL is fully entitled to keep on with HRT for as long as she likes unless there is a reason she can't take it.

However, Premarin is an old type of HRT.
She would be far better off on a newer type but also as she is over 60, she ought to be using a transdermal type- a patch or gel. This is because the risk of stroke is higher with pills.

Her GP has no right to withdraw HRT unless he thinks she is at risk.
The British Menopause Guidelines say there is no time limit to HRT.

I have posted a link here and she might like to print off this info and take to discuss.
