Should I have this procedure? Heavy periods/peri-menopause related

I had a gynae appointment today following a TV ultrasound a few months ago. The results were that I have a 7cm ovarian cyst and some fibroids. For background, I was referred for a scan by my GP as I was experiencing peri-menopausal symptoms including flooding and sleepless nights. She referred me for blood tests for thyroid problems (all clear) and a mindfulness course for my sleep problems.
Back to today. The gynae referred me for blood tests and a further scan. He said that the scan results would show whether the cyst has grown or shrunk. If it has grown then I would need an op to remove it. He said "while he is there" and I am under anaesthetic he would perform a procedure involving a camera into my womb to check the fibroids and to insert a Mirena coil. So, kind of a 3-in-1 procedure. I'm not sure how I feel. I don't want a Mirena coil. I don't see the point in checking for fibroids as I am 47 and so my fertility isn't an issue. But I understand the cyst should be removed in case it ruptures.

Has anyone any experience of any or all of these symptoms? What did you decide? I don't think "just because he is there" he should do everything at once without fully understanding the benefits. I'm scared of having a Mirena coil and have heard about awful side effects. I don't know enough about fibroids to know whether the camera investigation is worth doing.

Help!

in your position, I'ld be inclined to let them check the fibroids, but not do the mirena, on the basis that if you changed your mind about mirena and wanted one, it would be a fairly straightforward outpatient procedure to have one fitted. Hopefully removing the cyst will help with your symptoms of flooding etc, but if you still have problems afterwards, if the surgeon already has the camera test information, it could potentially speed up treatment.

Thanks Hamish.
I think that is the right course of action. The gynae did not seem at all concerned about the fibroids but I'm happy to get them investigated if I am under anyway for the cyst removal. If I don't have the cyst removed then I will think again about my options. But I'm still adamant that I don't want the coil fitted!
