Perimenopause Long Bleed

I'm just after some reassurance of long episodes of bleeding in perimenopause. I'm 44 and not had a period since end of August then around the 12th Jan had a bleed and its not stopped. I wouldn't say it is very heavy, but just bright red blood and cramping more. I've been to doctors they have done a swab and examined me so waiting for results of that. Has anyone had experience of this? Is it likely to go on for a long time, just feeling fed up and sick of feeling bloated. Sad

If it makes you feel better I have only just stopped a bleed from last October! 45yrs and peri.......

After several investigations, I was found to have 3 cervical polyps, (fibroids too), but it was the polyps causing the bleed.

Hormones can also make periods longer/heavier, as well as shorter and lighter which often happens towards menopause.

Best to get checked by a Dr, if just for peace of mind. I got myself in such as state I was convinced I had cancer, so can appreciate what you are going through.

Good luck!

I'm the same, im 46 and my periods have changed, longer heavier and clots. I'm also getting hot flushes still bleed regularly but I'm on the pill still.
I do worry sometimes though because at my last smear I had cin 3 cells and had to have treatment. Got the all clear but things have definitely changed since then, coincidence maybe Confused

Thanks for your replies.

I'm so scared I have cancer its really worrying me. I've read its normal to have longer periods but they are getting heavier and I'm feeling so anxious which is probably making it worse :(

Aw it is worrying, but I bet perfectly normal.
When do you get results? Awful waiting isn't it x

InSightMars · 01/02/2019 13:02

I went 6 months without a bleed then a 3 weaker, then 3 months after that another 3 weeker. Then a year and they tell you you can assume that’s the end so I thought great I was done. But, in one final last hurrah after 15 months, I bled for 4 weeks. I thought it was cancer too, I got checked out, there were no actual problems just my body doing it’s horrible perimenopausal thing.

You won’t know anything until the results of your swab come back but it’s highly unlikely to be cancer. I won’t say try not to worry, you can’t help worrying but this is where there are no rules and there’s no ‘normal’ and it bloody sucks to be a woman. I hope you’re not kept hanging on the results too much longer.

PeachRose · 01/02/2019 15:21

I've rang the doctors but nothing has come back yet, no news is good news and all that Confused. I will ring them Monday. I feel very shaky today and I'm convinced I've lost weight but my mum said I look fine so probably just me. For some reason my dog keeps coming over to me all week and laying her head on my lap and crying as though she knows something again it's just me being paranoid but Labrador's normally pick up on things. Yes it's rubbish being a woman, just not knowing what is normal Hmm take me back to my 28 regular cycle with a 3 day bleed and back to normal any day!

How I found out I was in peri menopause was a 5 month bleed.
4 years later and I was regular time wise but each period was different, from a days light flow, to a weeks heavy clotty flow.
Am now going through a two week cycle, for which I could happily off someone if they even look at me wrong.
Am utterly fucked off with the menopause in general, and every damn thing being attributed to it.
Sorry rant over

snowman72 · 01/02/2019 15:48

Your doggie can probably pick up you worrying mine does that, let's hope u get the results soon so you're not left worrying too long

Akrotiri1 · 01/02/2019 18:31

You have probably lost weight through stressing, and your dog is sensing that!

Statistically cancer is less likely, whereas all woman will go though the menopause..........

PeachRose · 02/02/2019 09:10

Ahh Treeflo 5 months bleeding is just awful. Menopause is crap! I went through a stage of hot flushes, insomnia, brain fog palpitations and other strange things like electric shock through my body as though it was raindrops but I was indoors Confused. I think my body was adjusting to the change and now those symptoms have gone but just a long period. I've completely gone off sex, no desire at all luckily my Dh is very understanding but I hope it comes back.

I'll feel better once these swab results come back then maybe have a look at something to regulate these periods if there is anything.

I have rang the doctors for my results and have been told a doctor needs to see me, I'm absolutely dreading it I can hardly breathe. My appointment is later this afternoon so I have to go through the day worrying and I'm still bleeding heavy Sad

Well at least if they gave found something, it can now be dealt with. Keeping everything crossed for you and keep us posted if you need more support. Big hugs xx

midnightgirl · 04/02/2019 15:05

How did it go, do let us know x

PeachRose · 04/02/2019 17:46

I have a yeast infection and that is all, although it's not nice I'm just relieved it isn't anything worse. So I have cream to treat it and see how I get on. The bleeding is due to me being perimenopause but I can cope with that and hopefully it will calm down soon.

Fantastic news! Take a deep breath and have a nice big glass of wine to celebrate xx

PeachRose · 04/02/2019 18:26

Thank you, I won't go as far as a glass wine though. Since this bloody menopause palava alcohol sets my anxiety off and palpitations lol... oh the joys!! I'll be glad when it's all over.
