Mirena Coil and Insomnia

I know there are lots of Mirena threads out there but I wanted a recent opinion. I had the Mirena fitted 2 and a half weeks ago due to ongoing anaemia. I have had bleeding and cramping since then (this I can cope with). However since a few days after insertion I have been suffering with terrible insomnia. It's taking me hours to get to sleep and when I do sleep it's very restless. I have to drive regionally for my job and I cannot do this on no/hardly any sleep. I have never suffered from Insomnia before, I am 41. If any of you have had a similar experience does the Insomnia gp away? (I will not take sleeping pills). If it doesn't go away I want to ask my Gp to remove the Mirena, has anybody else done this after such a short amount of time? My gp said I need to give it 6 months!! I can't afford to do that if the insomnia won't go. Any advice is appreciated.

I had problems with waking early, around 4am every morning which drove me crazy, but it settled after a couple of weeks and haven't had a problem (other than some weight gain) since. I'd give it a bit longer and hopefully it should settle.

Yeah I think I will give it another week as I have a gp appointment next week. Was your weight gain a lot?

About a stone, but I think I'm just hungrier so need to control that a bit better. Being period free for the last few months after years of v heavy periods on the implant is amazing though!!

I have been comfort eating since I had it in, think mainly it's because I'm not feeling that great but I am starting healthy eating now. My sister had the Mirena the day before me and she had been dieting and lost 4 pounds so thankfully if I try to lose weight it should come off!

Easier said than done sometimes! At 41, I've come to the conclusion that healthy eating and exercise is ideal for my health, but I'll always have a bit of extra padding whilst I continue on hormone contraceptives - I'm fed up with fighting it!!!
