Referral for query ovarian cancer

Via A and E visits this weekend I have to see my GP tomorrow to start the 2 week cancer referral for suspected ovarian cancer. I don’t need to spell out how I’m feeling but would welcome advice - I live in Surrey - any advice on which hospital to ask to be referred to? Or should I go privately for diagnostic stage? I have a highly recommended person in London. Just in bits at the moment - added to which was due to leave for 5 week holiday in NZ and Oz next Sunday so have insurance company etc to deal with not to mention contacting friends over there and then there’s my dd to tell . Just some help/advice/ handholding please

@JinglingHellsBells no she didn’t and I’d no idea what I should have expected so didn’t say anything. Tbh it’s made me more concerned but I realise that’s not necessarily logical as it might just be her modus operandi. Time is passing so slowly

If you ever have them done again, ask!

I'm firing questions all the time- what can you see, is it all ok, and when I did have a cyst I'd be askin gif it had grown, how did it look, blah blah.

Assume you paid quite a lot of cash so you have every right to ask them!

Jingle I could kick myself now - yes I paid £495 for the two scans. I think I was scared to ask - how bloody pathetic is that. Whose scans are they - mine of course . But perhaps she said nothing because it was really bad...

Stop imagining the worst.

She prob said nothing as most people don't ask and it can come over as being uninterested/ passive.

YOU paid, they are YOUR scans and YOUR body!!
BTW where did you have it done in the end?

Bourdic · 16/01/2019 14:03

Parkside Hospital Wimbledon

How did your appt go?

Bourdic · 18/01/2019 16:39

Jingle thanks for asking. The scan report concludes that it is almost certainly an overian cyst but that it has some unusual features so taking into account my age and its size, an MRI is the next step. The pain is no better and I ended up in A and E at 5am yesterday on morphine. I now have prescription painkillers at home and had more sleep last night which has helped. I see the consultant on Monday. I asked the GP about the pain and she mused on the possibility of a twisted ovary. Obvs I feel much calmer now but roll on Monday

well at least you are getting somewhere.

How old are you?

My simple cyst was 3.5cms -it was discovered by 'accident'.
I was scanned every 4months for changes as I was post meno. It went away over 2 years (so had lots of scans!)

HOWEVER I was told that if it burst or the ovary twisted, it could be agony and I should go to A&E.

Fingers crossed for you and hope it's all okay.
come back and let us know?

Bourdic · 18/01/2019 18:14

I’m 72. My GP said that an ovary can twist and untwist and that would cause pain but said if it permanently twisted, I wouldn’t just have pain but would vomit and it would then be an emergency. As yours was discovered by accident, did that mean you didn’t have any pain?

That's right- had no symptoms.

I was seeing my gynae for the first time and as part of that had a full MOT including a scan.

Bourdic · 31/01/2019 01:02

Have had MRI and seen consultant. They are confident the cyst is benign but because of the pain I’m having both ovaries removed next week.

Hi I have been having left side pain for almost a year, had an MRI colonoscopy on Monday which showed large cyst on ovary, an now in the two week referral as well... I had an ultrasound in October and it was just a small cyst but nothing was done, went to gp yesterday who gave antibiotics as says I also have a water infection and sent me to get bloods done ... mine just feels like a dull ache although I will be due on my period within the next five days, feeling very nervous now incase it gets worse in the meantime... good to be able to follow others with similar symptoms and issues.

Bourdic · 31/01/2019 10:02

Dolly I’m postmenopausal so the pathway and medical concerns are different but the feelings we have are similar I’m sure. I’m glad you’re on the cancer pathway now ( in the sense that that’s the right place in the circs) Are you worried that the pain will get worse or that the cyst will get worse? Getting my pain under control made a huge difference as it was stopping me sleeping and/ or waking me up.

Bourdic getting the pain under control is my main priority, wakes me in the night, feel like I've constantly got a hot water bottle ion me as that eases the pain. Hopefully appointment will be here soon.
