Will I turn into a She-Monster after Mirena removed?

I'm having the BASTARD (so eloquently put by PP some time ago) out after almost 5yrs. I have hated it, so many headaches and migraines, hot flushes, greasy hair...
But after some naughty googling it looks like it's going to be even more hideous once the BASTARD is gone?
Help!
Is it really bad?
Tell me something good...
I don't want to be a she- monster 👹

I was fine when mine was finally removed under general anaesthetic

northernlites · 13/01/2019 17:55

Thank you, I knew there must be women out there who had no horror stories.
I need some good ones to counteract all the awful ones I've read 😬

Felt so much better once it was out! No horror story here.

blibblibs · 13/01/2019 17:57

Best thing I ever did, getting that bastarding thing out.

Quarepants · 13/01/2019 17:58

Oh no! So awful, I'm waiting for months to have one put in as a solution to hideous periods. Does anyone know why it is a miracle for some and a bastard for others?

glitterypink · 13/01/2019 18:02

I felt amazing when mine was out! Hated the bastard thing!

northernlites · 13/01/2019 18:08

@Quarepants the more I read it seems that the women who like them are in the minority, which is great for them but it seems the majority hate them, myself included, it's not been good for my body and I just want to be 'me' again even if my heavy periods come back. I will look for alternatives but will never go back to the bastarding mirena
I also felt coerced into having it, another common theme 😒

blibblibs · 13/01/2019 19:30

Quarepants it certainly helped with heavy periods, I stopped having them altogether but unfortunately that didn't make up for the rest of it.
northernlites I had the copper coil put in immediately and its been great. Obviously have periods again but I don't think they are any worse than before and feel so much better in myself.

northernlites · 13/01/2019 19:39

That was the only benefit for me too @blibblibs which unfortunately doesn't outweigh the negatives. Glad the cooper one is working for you, I think I will be steering clear of all IUD's though

blibblibs · 13/01/2019 20:51

It was hormones I wanted to stear clear of and didn't fancy condoms or taking chances with the withdrawal method so the copper one seemed like a decent option and it's thankfully worked out well.
I did have a really fantastic GP who agreed to take it out if I decided it didn't suit me.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 13/01/2019 20:55

I’m due to have mine out. My periods stopped, now I’m wondering what is in store! I have felt ok with it, but is that because you forget after five years what you were like before?!

northernlites · 13/01/2019 22:46

Yeah not sure what I'm going to go for yet, may consider sterilisation and use condoms in the interim, hoping my sex drive improves too once it's out 😂

OP posts:
Marmaladegin · 14/01/2019 09:49

Oh no, definitely better within 6 weeks of it being out. And wasn't worse during those 6 weeks. Despite my doctors assurances that there were only very mild and rare side effects, when I was on it I had awful mood swings, headaches and absolutely no interest in sex

Bebe03 · 15/01/2019 15:37

Can I ask @dementedpixie how long it took for you to have it removed?

Waiting for mine to come out via a hysterectomy & desperate to know how long others had to wait for an appointment as an told it could be five months!!

alwaysneedgin · 15/01/2019 15:42

Mine came out with my hysterectomy. I feel tons better without it.

@Bebe03 I think it depends on a lot of things. My initial appointment for minor surgery was 2 months. However due to worsening symptoms I got a cancellation over a month early. Op was unsuccessful so I had hyst 10 days later. Howevee, I'm in a sparsely populated area and it was Christmas time. Its worth ringing to ask how long the waiting list is.

northernlites · 15/01/2019 16:10

I really hope they can get mine out tomorrow! I don't want to have an op for it. I have felt for the strings and I can't feel them...I hope that's not a bad omen 😬

OP posts:
Bebe03 · 15/01/2019 16:20

Hopefully you’ll be okay @northernlites I couldn’t feel mine & the doctor couldn’t see- hence the referral!

I have been told not to feel them is common and there was a little tool the doctor used to try and tease them out- was told this is normally successful if the strings have just curled up & around! Hopefully this is the case with you- let us know how it goes!

Bebe03 · 15/01/2019 16:22

Thank you @alwaysneedgin wouldn’t mind a two month wait really just don’t want 5+ Months of waiting!

Will ask next week regarding waiting times

northernlites · 16/01/2019 17:19

Got it out 😀😀😀
The bastard has gone!
Not without a fight with the family planning woman though!
She said you can't have it out unless I start you on some long acting method of contraception so you will have to come back for another appointment to have it out!! 😮😮

Er no

I said I'm not coming back for another appt! Especially as I was having a smear as well, I said we are not doing this twice
What happened to women's choice and the right for women to minimise the intervention to their bodies??? 🤔
I was appalled that my choices were steam rollered
So I told her I was hoping to conceive, which I am not, but I am master of my own body and choices and will not be imposed on!
It was bizarre
Won't be seeing her again

OP posts:
Bebe03 · 16/01/2019 18:03

Oh I am so pleased for you! Glad you stood your ground, can’t believe they tried to make you keep it in!

Could they see the strings on examination? Am intrigued hoq they get these hidden coils out Shock

northernlites · 16/01/2019 19:14

She could see the strings and it was easy to get out thankfully
Just have to wait and see if I turn into a crazy woman now 😂

OP posts:
Bebe03 · 16/01/2019 19:58

Hahaha! I’m sure you won’t turn into the she-monster OP Wink

northernlites · 09/07/2019 22:17

Just to update, having it out was the best move ever, my headaches have reduced by 3/4, my skin has improved, I don't get hives as much, I am less bloated,
I have taken back control! Sure I have my periods back and they aren't always smooth sailing but it's so much easier in comparison to how the mirena made me
Liberation!
