St John’s wort and period

I’ve been taking St. John worts, one tablet a day for around a week. My contraceptive implant is also due to run out in around two weeks (I am aware SJW can interact with the implant but we’re going to ttc one it’s taken out next week).
Can SJW interfere with your periods? Since starting it I have been bleeding for a week but it changes from nothing for 12 hours to suddenly really heavy. Is this due to the SJW itself, or it interfering with the hormones or could it be my implant running out and my body trying to get back to having periods again? Im not used to having periods since being on the implant so it’s all new to me again...

This must be info you could find online via google.

Or ask your pharmacist perhaps?

Or see your GP.

I think it's unlikely to be SJW as it's something that affects mood.

I doubt one week of SJW could affect your cycles so quickly.

But see your GP as it may not be recommended if you are TTC.

I have googled and all I can find is that it isn’t suitable for taking whilst on the implant or oral contraceptives due to the risk of stopping them working, resulting in pregnancy. I also am not so concerned right now that I need to seek medical advice! Hence the reason I was thinking other people on here may have taken it and experienced similar or had some advice! I’m sure lots of questions on Mumsnet could be googled but it’s nice to have people’s experiences that you can talk to Hmm

I began suffering from acute anxiety in the Summer - just came out of the blue and I was really poorly but reluctant to take the anti-depressants and anxiety drugs prescribed.

However, I did get some St. John's Wort from the health food shop. Dosage should have been 3 tablets per day with meals. First day I took one, second and third day I took two - so five in total as oppose to the recommended dosage of 9 tablets over three days

On the evening of the third day I ended up in A&E with a severe allergic reaction and I have never been allergic to anything in my life. Rash all over body and I mean all over, swelling in throat and painful blocked ear - very frightening.

Just because it's 'herbal' and you can buy it over the counter - it's still powerful stuff with the potential for severe side effects in the user.

St John's Wort can apparently cause issues with breakthrough bleeding if you do a google search - several results coming up.
