Breast clinic advice

I'm really just looking for advice and experiences from those who have been to a breast clinic. I have an appointment next week to get some lumps checked and I'm wondering what to expect. Will my husband be able to attend with meand be present during the consultation etc? I am terrified and my mind is not slowing down imagining the worst. Thanks for any replies.

I've been. Didn't have DH with me but others had their partners.
I had an examination, mammogram, scan and biopsy, then a chat with the doctor.
Remember 9/10 lumps are benign. Good luck!

I went with my husband, he came in with me for the various sections of the appointment. I had an examination (they drew on me with a pen to highlight the area of the lump) and then an ultrasound (no mammogram because I was in my early 30s). For me the ultrasound was enough to rule out anything worrying so the appointment was quite quick.

First of all try not to worry, most visits to the breast clinic end up with everything being fine.

Your husband can definitely attend, but they are usually left in the waiting room when you have to actually see people.

I have had two visits and both have been identical. They went like this -
Arrive.
Sit in waiting room.
Get called through to get changed into an easy access gown, clothes go in a basket that you cart round with you/leave with oh.
Back to waiting room.
See a consultant who will chat through what's been going on, give you a manual examination and explain the rest of the visit.
Then ultrasound, cold gel, otherwise entirely uneventful.
Back to waiting room.
Then mammogram, not going to lie, for me, feckin painful, but super quick, so very tolerable.
Back to waiting room.
Back to consultant who will review what if anything has shown up.

Visits were for me about 3 hours ish.
There is a lot of waiting about.

I hope that helps somewhat and that everything turns out to be fine.

Also your user name is awesome, and my dd's nickname Grin

Hi I went some years ago due to a lump. My now ex husband went with me. He could go into the room with consultant and then ultrasound etc as well if I wanted him too. They talked about symptoms family history and any thing else they thought of. Had a nurse do a breast exam and Mark area where it could be felt. Had a ultrasound (as under 35 back then) and was told it was a cyst so did a needle aspiration there and then. They checked again with scan. The next day I had a lump the size of a egg appear so went back to GP it was just the bruising. I'm going back next week to GP as well as found what appears to be a lump in the same place. X

Thanks so much for all of your replies and experiences. I'm terrified because my appointment is getting closer but at the same time I just want it over with. It makes me feel better that my husband might be able to come into some parts of my appointment.
