Can you use a menstural cup for heavy periods?

I suffer from heavy periods , often with clots (sorry if tmi!). I find tampons often leak. So I use towels but I feel uncomfortable with these and obviously it doesn’t feel nice to have heavy periods and wear towels and during the first few days I will have to change every hour or so.
There seems to be a lot of menstural cup advocates on MN so I’m wondering if one would work for me and my heavy periods.
Tbh, I did purchase a Mooncup a few years back but didn’t get the hang of it (it leaked and one time the suction was so strong I couldn’t release it off which made me panic!).
Not sure if I should dust off the old Mooncup or try a different brand? I did find the rim of the Mooncup stiff and uncomfortable. Are they all roughly the same?
Any advice would be great as I’m hoping to return to work from being a SAHM for years and really don’t want to be dashing to the loo every hour when I have a period at work (was ok when I’m home).

Yes :) I have heavy periods and it works for me. I hated the rim of the mooncup so got a si bell and adore it!

Yes agree with pp. There's also a bit of a knack to doing it with heavy flow - I do need to empty it relatively often and squeeze it when fairly upright (if you see what I mean) to break the suction withiut it leaking or tipping out.
Now I use it with washable pads also, and find the combination works well.

Yes, they're brilliant. I use a La Luna and wish I had done earlier. Need changing less often, never leak, more comfortable, less pain. Its all good!

Yes!

There's definitely a technique to emptying it when full, though, to avoid the bathroom looking like a scene from REservoir Dogs...

I used to have quite heavy periods (currently preggers, so no periods, woo!) and used a moon cup for about 6-8 months.

I was always heavy on day 3 and would have to change the cup every 2-3 hours, usually with using pads at the same time to give me a bit of flexibility about getting to a loo on time!

The moon cup has a measure on the side and I calculated that I lost 120mls of blood one period, which was about double of a 'normal person's period'.

One thing I did find was that I got more period pain with it in and had to wiggle it sometimes for the seal too. Also found that as the rim bit was coming out, it was painful!

Maybe a moon cup with a pad? Or tampons and a pad?

Thanks all, I’ll give it another go.
