The most awful ovulation pain

I have so much to do, it’s christmas Eve, presents to deliver and I’m doubled over in pain, I feel like I’m being stabbed up the back passage and I feel like I’m in labour.

I came off the pill last month so this is the first time I have ovulated in ages, I went on the pill for this very reason (to stop ovulation) but the pill made me spot all the time so decided I was going to take a break. Started with a dull ache yesterday and now it’s so painful I’m unable to walk. I have taken pain killers and hopefully they will kick in soon as I have family to visit and the house to sort out.

Does anyone else suffer? If so what works to help the pain?

I have had scans in the past which show small cysts on my ovaries but no further investigations.

This may not be ovulation but endometriosis instead. It is a common cause of severe period pains and can also cause these symptoms to arise,

You need a referral to a gynae

Yes, I get this with ovulation too.
Only painkillers and waiting for it to end which is usually about 6-12 hours. It’s always exactly 14 days before my period comes.
Always one sided and many times excruciating.
Sympathies, its horrible.

Pretty sure it is ovulation, only lasts 6-12 hours but can leave me achy for 48 hours. Feeling better today.

Ovulation should not be that painful ever or leaving you feeling unable to walk. This is why I mentioned endometriosis as this can cause such symptoms to arise. The pain in your rectum can also be symptomatic of endometriosis.

I had this, and the doctors suspected endometriosis. A laparoscopy proved them right. They cut as much as possible out and gave me the mirena, which has helped a lot, for now at least. I hope you get it sorted, it can be so horrible and debilitating.

(It was ovulation that was hurting, but only because my ovaries had endo on them.)

Attila endometriosis has been mentioned to me several times, I have been to specialists in the past and had several scans (external and internal). Cysts have always shown up on the scans but not much else. I have been advised to get the coil fitted but I’m worried about getting it and the possibility it will make things worse. Maybe I should give it a chance?
