Worried about cyst

Hi
Just been for pelvic ultrasound after weeks of having left side pelvic pain. They have found a 6cm cyst. I have to see my doctor next week. My bowel motions have changed lately as well (going from loose stools, gas and constipated) could this be linked? I’m worried? Thank you

Anyone?

If it's a simple cyst, you have a lot less to worry about - what did they say, or did they leave till your app to find that out? How long did you haev the symptoms?
Cysts are common and could affect bowel movements. I wonder if they sent you for blood tests too?

Liamandlee · 15/12/2018 10:49

Hi
Thank you for answering I have had symptoms for about 4 weeks. The girl at scan wouldn’t tell me much just said to arrange a doctor appointment for a weeks time. My gp took bloods last week as she thought my symptoms were ibs and wanted to rule out caeliac(?). Xx

did they move that doc app forward? ormally if you wre referred to scan, they'd have already made an app but usually more than a week.
what was the IBS test result?
I meant actually ovarian-related blod test but usually it's gynae who arranges that especially if ultrasound shows something new or the cyst is not simple. So sounds like not yet.
It's good that you don't have long to wait. But many radiographers would comment if the cyst is simple.

CatAndHisKit · 15/12/2018 18:40

sorry I should haev typed more carefully - words missing. Meant that usually an app is more than a week after scan unless the cyst is new and not simple - but possibly they had a cancellation so it's sooner.

Liamandlee · 16/12/2018 05:48

Hi thank you so much for responding because it just keeps going round in my head especially having the added symptoms, the ultrasound happened quickly because there was a cancellation had no gynae related bloods and results haven’t come back as of yet for ibs related. Radiographer just said arrange an appointment with gp in a week and make sure they refer you to gynaecology. She never mentioned it being a simple cyst she showed me the picture on the screen after and the measurements. Xxx

CatAndHisKit · 16/12/2018 13:38

It's unusual that they referred you back to gp - it's normally gynae app first, they refer you to scan then back to gynae, didn't think GPs could even send you to scans directly. I think the good news is, she wasn't very alarmed because if she was she'd urgently contact a gynae or consulted someone. If it's a whole wek just to see GP and only then they refer you - she obv doesn't think it's urgent but needs checking if not simple or monitoring if simple. 6cm is not considered big if it's simple, they don;t do anything about them, but depends whether you get pain from it too..

Liamandlee · 17/12/2018 14:29

Hi spoke with gp today she said ultrasound showed an endometrial cyst, over left ovary but was unable to see right ovary as there was a lot of gas. My ca125 levels are 37. She said she was doing a referral under the two week rule to gynaecology xxx

I've just been through something very similar.
GP referred me for initial ultrasound, found a cyst, then back to the GP who referred me to gynae.
The gynae then scheduled another ultrasound 8 weeks later to monitor size of the cyst and determine whether it was endometrial or follicular.
Ultrasound showed cyst was still there no changes so Gynae then organised an op to remove it.
Your situation sounds so much like mine I wouldn't be surprised if you follow the same route.
Hope this helps

Liamandlee · 17/12/2018 16:20

Aww thank you did they determine which one it was? How was the op? Did you get many symptoms? Sorry for all the questions xxx

OP posts:
CatAndHisKit · 17/12/2018 20:55

I didn't know GPs can refer directly - in my case it was the opposite, referred to gynae then to ultrasound.
OP they can see from the scan which type it is, no need to do the op just for that! but if it's not simple they'll be inclined to remove it. If simple will monitor for size but this is usually once in many months if it's 6cm..

CatAndHisKit · 17/12/2018 20:59

meant to say, Op, I think endometrial is not 'simple' so gynae will decide what to do - I think if you have actual pain rather than discomfort they maywant to remove.

friginilla · 17/12/2018 22:45

The op was fine, keyhole surgery to remove the cyst, they were also looking for further endometrial growths.

I think they decided to do mine because my menstrual cycle had been messed up (irregular, painful and heavy) for about 18 months that culminated in waking up one morning in agony with pain on left hand side of pelvis. GP initially thought it was either a water infection or a ruptured cyst and referred me for the ultrasound to be safe (that'll be why the GP referred me for the ultrasound initially).

Other symptoms; I found it painful to pass water and stools & had headaches & dizziness, these have all improved since the op.

Since the issues started 18-24ish months ago, PMT symptoms were quite severe but it's to soon to tell whether the removal of the cyst will have improved this.

Sorry for the ramble but I know how difficult I have found everything throughout the process so want to give you as much info as possible.

TwitterQueen1 · 17/12/2018 22:50

Your CA125 is completely normal. With cysts (I'm not an expert), don't the medics leave them for a while to see what happens? I understand that sometimes they just go of their own accord...

99RedBalloonsFloating · 17/12/2018 22:57

I had an endometrial cyst on my left ovary. I had on hindsight lots of symptoms, more than you and very crippling, which I hadn't really tied together.

Do you have a history of endometriosis?

CatAndHisKit · 17/12/2018 23:05

friginilla - that makes sense as you had acute pain so GP has referred urgently to ultrasound. How long did it take you to ecover from the op? was it awful to start with re going to the toilet?

bruffin · 17/12/2018 23:09

I had a 4cm endometrial cyst on my ovary. I was offered mirina coil. I had had heavy and very painful periods, but i think it burst and afterwards symptoms were not so bad. I didnt want the mirina as i hadnt reacted well to progesterone in the past

sazzle27 · 17/12/2018 23:46

I'm currently waiting for a follow up appt with the GP to go through my scan results..
Had an abdo, pelvic and trans-vaginal scan done yesterday..
Radiographer would say very little other than results would be emailed to my gp today and to call this week for an appt..

All i remember are my ovary cc measurements (?cc) left was 16 and right was 26ish...

None of it made any sense to me, and was going to make my own post on here when I came across this one!
I know they were looking for gallstones and possible gynae things due to intermittent right sided abdo pain, bad periods (maybe due to the implant)..

friginilla · 18/12/2018 00:37

I'm just approaching week 4 after the op, I still feel quite a bit of pressure in my pelvic area especially after a fair bit of movement, and the obvious tenderness of the scars but it's nothing you wouldn't expect after a procedure.
My bladder/bowel issues got progressively worse from about 12 months ago, at first took longer to empty a full bladder, then went on to experiencing pain during bladder/bowel movements.

Chickenwings85 · 18/12/2018 01:34

I'm going through a similar thing but I've been bleeding for 6 weeks and have my urgent 2 week referral appointment this Wednesday to talk about what's happening and possibly an other examination.

Liamandlee · 18/12/2018 09:52

Thank you all for responding, I’m sorry others are or have gone through the same. Iv been getting pains in my hip leg and lower back for a few months then the pelvic pain came about 6 weeks ago. The pain varies during the day from dull to sharp. Also whole abdominal feels full and heavy, and not able to pass formed stools. Doctor said scan was unable to see right ovary as area was full of gas (another symptom) going to see gynaecology on Friday. About 12 years ago they thought I might of had endometriosis but didn’t have laparoscopy (kicking myself now) and then when my gynaecologist was changed she said no I don’t think you have it. My mam had it though although it wasnt known until she had a hysterectomy. Xxx

OP posts:
Liamandlee · 18/12/2018 10:01

i Think I got referred to ultrasound by gp rather than gynae because doctor didn’t think it was gynae related just wanted to rule this out before looking at other reasons for pain. One of the doctors I seen said he didn’t know any gynae related condition that would cause problems with my bowels. Think this is what frightened me thinking has something spread or is it two separate issues. Hope this resolves soon only got approved to be foster carers in October and awaiting a placement. Xxx

CatAndHisKit · 18/12/2018 22:54

friginilaa, sorry I meant 'at first after your op' regarding emptying bladder/stools - as it's all tender and healing for weeks, it must be painful?

FrankieChips · 20/12/2018 01:22

Liamandlee you sound similar to me. I’m currently awake in agony with period pains. I have cysts on both ovaries and suspected endometriosis. Getting a laparoscopy in Jan to confirm but my gynaecologist is certain. Endometriosis can cause problems with your bowels. I have bowel problems and my gynaecologist says that the scarring is probably around my bowel (she called it scattered endometriosis). Try not to worry as this all sounds like endometriosis and cyst problems and as my GP told me “it won’t kill you”although at the moment it feels like it will. Ouch!

FrankieChips · 20/12/2018 01:25

Oh and I had the ultrasound first too as my gp suspected it was gynae related from, the start. Your symptoms sound almost exactly like mine. The scan can’t show endometriosis though only cysts. The laparoscopy will determine if it is endometriosis too.
