Worried but can’t get to doctor

I’ve had a UTI for a while now, dr prescribed anti-bs which helped but didn’t get rid completely and also gave me thrush 🙄 In addition I’m coping with on and off mid cycle bleeding due to recently starting the mini pill. The UTI has got worse again over the weekend - not awful but enough to know it’s not cleared up yet - but I can’t get out of work to go to the dr.

I’ve been with a new partner for a couple of months and dr thinks all this has been triggered by sex - lot of years since I’ve been with someone regularly and he’s ahem well built so it makes sense. But with how long it’s gone on I’m slightly worried it’s something more than a UTI even though I’ve no reason to think that and don’t have any other symptoms eg discharge (sorry tmi).

Guess I’m looking for a bit of reassurance that a UTI which doesn’t shift isn’t necessarily anything to be worried about, any advice very welcome.

If the first antibiotics helped a lot and it’s come back it would suggest it is a uti that just hasn’t cleared up completely instead of anything else. If you ve had one set of antibiotics you may find they will give you more over the phone instead of having to go in.

Agree that more ABs may be needed. Have you tried cystopurin sachets? They can help to relieve the symptoms of a UTI while you are waiting for a cure

Dd is having the same issue, but without taking the pill of having a boyfriend (she lives at home no interest - autistic). Back to dr today so will let you know what is prescribed

You need to see a dr after work because a UTi Wont go on it’s own. In the meantime drink lots of water

Thanks, know I do need to see a dr but impossible to get an appointment that fits round work 🙄

I can’t help with the current situation but for future reference, if you don’t already, do make sure you go for a wee after sex every time. As tempting as it is to lie there for extended cuddles, it really helps. Hope you get it sorted Flowers

I know it’s a total pain. Give them a call and ask what they suggest. Sometimes they’ll leave a prescription behind the counter or send it to a local pharmacy for you to collect. Or they might suggest a walk in

I had a uti that didn't clear up after 5 days of antibiotics until I was given a different antibiotic which cleared it

A UTI that doesn't shift isn't anything to worry about, but to get rid of it you will have to hit up your doctors again.

Do you have a GUM clinic nearby which does walk-ins? You might find they have a wider range of hours available than the docs.

I thought I had a uti some time ago. I had the symptoms of wanting to pee often, passing dribbles, burning sensation and pain, some blood etc. My urine sample was clear and the dr didn’t prescribe anything.
Instead he suggested it was cystitis ( it can be brought on by having frequent sex)
I took some sachet drinks from the chemist, lots of cranberry juice ( and a ban on sex) and it cleared up in days.

I suppose for you, it depends if your urine dip is positive or not. You can take a sample for dipping to your local surgery.

Maybe try to arrange a telephone consultation with your gp during your lunch break.
