Hi all,
I'm looking for advice or something to calm me down after receiving my smear results that say I have the HPV virus and have a high grade change in my cells 😢. I'm booked in for a colposcopy next week, an appointment that has been rushed through as an urgent case, and am petrified! Please help! I had my smear done exactly 3 months after baby was born and they did say there could be a negative result but nobody mentioned to this degree 😭 thank you in advance xx

Try not to panic-Easier said than done I know. I have had a colposcopy and it wasn’t that pleasant but wasn’t that bad either. Think I went twice...a while ago now so can’t really remember. There was a nurse there too who was really nice and supportive. Made me feel at ease. I had annual smears after it for the next 5 years and never had any other problems. I was a bit sore afterwards so maybe take someone with you if you can.

Sorry to hear you have been through it all but thank you, that's reassuring to hear it's not that scary!
Guess I'm just scared of the after math, the results. Xx

I've had about 5 of them. Nothing to worry about. They're just looking after you which is great. The first couple I was really scared, now I drive there and drive home. Nobody with me. It's also just the unknown.

I had the same results and my smear was 3.months after I had my baby too. Colposcopy clinic was lovely, they did a punch biopsy and everything was fine. I bled for a day or so afterwards. The results can be skewed after having a baby so recently. Good luck, aren't we lucky to live in a world where these things are checked and dealt with so quickly Flowers

Don’t worry too much. I had my first smear in like 6 years ( yes yes my bad) and the result was severe dyskariosis ( cin 3) and the gp rang and told me it was imperative I book in for a colposcopy. Oh yes, also hpv positive.. soo all the bad stuff

They did the colposcopy and I had a laser cone biopsy after to remove the affected cells and s biopsy done.. 100 pct clear now.

The gynae did say not to worry too much ( I was freaking out in her office) as it apparently takes years and years to develop into cancer.. and if it is cancer, and it’s cabcer in situ then the treatment is still just to burn the cells off..
so odds are it’s eithrr a bad smear result, or even if it is dyskariosis that that’s that bad you can be treated right on the spot. The good thing is it’s been diagnosed and will be sorted out ASAP.
Good luck for your treatment, hope it goes well

Sorry forgot to add, when she said years and years, she said more than a decade.. unless you are really really unlucky or have genetic predisposition to this, which is apparently really rare

Thank you all soooo much for your advice and for all your help to calm me down. I feel at ease now and my brain has stopped working over time. You are all wonderful and I'm sending virtual hugs to you all 💐

Hi OP,

It’s good you have a colposcopy so will get checked out.
Had mine on 15th November, ended up in tears in front of the colposcopist as was so scared. She did biopsy and let me go.
Waiting for the letter from her.

Good luck with yours, hopefully all will turn out to be good. 🌹🤗

Don't panic Flowers. The system is doing what it is meant to do and watch any cell changes like a hawk. It's when you don't bother to do these things that it's a problem.
I had diazepam for my colposcopy as I'd worked myself up into a fizz. FWIW the nurses were lovely, far nicer than a routine smear test.

puppymouse · 25/11/2018 14:11

I also had my first abnormal smear after having DD. Doctor prescribed me a large amount of diazepam and I was pretty out of it for my colposcopy. Didn't hurt and they came back and said I had to have some cells removed. I wasn't sleeping and cried a lot. It was terrifying. But they took me in for the day, did it under general (not sure if that's available as standard) and it was fine. Next smear was clear.

I'm waiting for results from my recent one now.

pup I had my LLETZ treatment under a general too. I was too shaky to tolerate it under a local, being out for 30 mins was far easier.

puppymouse · 25/11/2018 16:53

Ohhh glad it's not just me! It was so much easier for me, personally. @megletthesecond
