Vaginal burning and irritation

I’m hoping someone can help me. I’ve been having a burning sensation in my vaginal opening for over a week now. I’ve been to the gynecologist and tested for everything. All came back normal. No yeast, no BV, no STI. The dr put me on 1% hydrocortisone for a week, until Wednesday. I don’t think my symptoms are getting any better.

I don’t use scented soaps, laundry detergents, etc. I don’t know what’s causing this.

Has anyone been through this before??

Thank you in advance

Hi. Have things resolved now? I don’t know how old you are but It sounds a bit like vaginal atrophy. Did your gynaecologist not mention this? There are quite a few posts on here lately about this so maybe worth having a read.
If you are in the uk, it might be worth going along to your local gum clinic so they can take a look and rule out any skin conditions.

Go back to your gp and mention atrophy if you think this might apply to you and just note that the symptoms vary for each woman and it’s not just about pain during sex. There are quite a few different symptoms but burning irritation is one of them.

Thank you for your response. I’m 38 and don’t have any symptoms of perimenopause. The burning began 2 weeks ago today. It has lessened a little but not fully. I probably should stop the hydrocortisone. Dr said only to use it for one week.

Can one still have a yeast infection but no discharge? The burning is only at the vaginal opening.

Should I go to a GUM clinic anyway? Where is the best one in London?

Many thanks.

Hi Ladycafe. Gum clinics are usually attached to nhs hospitals so just search gum clinics for London. Might be known as sexual health clinics as well.
Yes I would definitely go and let them take a look. They will do tests and examine you. They usually have walk in sessions or you can just ring up for an appointment.
Try stopping the hydrocortisone cream as this can burn.

I can sympathise with you as I have the same problem but I’m being treated for vaginal atrophy as I’m post menopausal. Good luck.

Been having the same. Been told I’m perimenopausal. Im also super anxious, been gaining weight and generally low. Doc given me Estrogel 4 pumps a day. Not started yet as I’m scared will put on more weight and the side effects I’m already experiencing! Doc also suggested Mirena but that’s a no for me. I was told to just try Estrogel but worried without combining with a progesterone. How you today?
