Worried I have pre-cancerous cells again

Ten years ago, my smear came back abnormal. Had to go into hospital and have pre cancerous cells burnt out. Since then had yearly smears.
Last period was very heavy, then I dotted for most of the month. Now having another unusually heavy period. Its not normal for me to be heavy.
I need to book a smear don't I? Bit tricky tho as you usually have to wait till you stop bleeding to have a smear.
Am really worried that somethings wrong.

Are you menopausal or pre menopausal perhaps? It could be a hormone thing. However if you’ve had a normal recent smear that’s a great sign, you can get another smear of course and I think that’s a good idea but I don’t think you should jump to conclusions yet. Xx

Thanks, I'm a worrier! I'm 40, so bit early for menopause. My last smear was 18 months ago, not sure what happened with annual ones!
I've just booked a smear for two weeks time, earliest they had. Hope I stop dotting/bleeding by then.

That’s brilliant, but if you’re worried could you explain and say you need to be seen sooner? Are you still under the hospital at all? The receptionist needs to give you an earlier appt for something like this imo. How do you feel about waiting 2 weeks? I’m sure everything is fine, please try not to worry too much Flowers there’s lots of other reasons for weird periods and dotting and you’re doing the right thing being checked x

You don't need a smear - you need to see your GP for an examination. Smears are for when you have no symptoms. You've probably got some (common and treatable) erosion of the cervix or it could be perimenopause.

A GP appointment is 3-4 weeks wait. minimum. I have a female GP-she works part time so I'd be over a month waiting. Due to abuse, I don't see male GPs.
I will speak to the smear nurse though, she may be able to get an exam done quicker.

Not under hospital care any longer-I've had DC since and been checked annually at GP. The nearest hospital is a fair distance and similar waiting times. I'm hoping in 2 weeks, the bleeding will have stopped!

I read on here that you can still have a smear if you have some bleeding.

Best of luck.
