Smear Test - too scared to go

I haven’t had a smear test since moving to a small community where everyone knows everyone and I just can’t bring myself to be seen by the nurse who is also DDs best friend mum! As I have BUPA can you get a private test at clinic on health insurance?

I was all ready to say YABU based on the title but now I’ve read it I think I would find that awkward as well! At the end of the day if you can’t find an alternative you’ll just have to be super grown-up about it and get it done as the risks of not getting it done don’t bear thinking about, but I totally understand why you feel that way! For her it won’t have the same meaning though - it’s just one more vagina out of hundreds!!

I work in a small community Gps and I'm pretty sure the nurse who does smears knows everybody. Some pstients will book the Dr to do smears in this situation and the Dr is perfectly happy to do this ( as long as they are registered to do smears).
Ask at reception - people often prefer different people to the norm for a variety of reasons and it shouldn't be a problem. But don't miss your smear any longer!

Please don’t miss it, OP. They are so important. I’d contact BUPA and see if they offer it.

You can often have a smear done at a family planning clinic if you prefer that. You could find out where the family planning clinics are near you and phone up.

Most private hospitals will have a female dr who does smears. It won't necessarily be a BUPA hospital- there are lots of different private hospitals.

Expect to pay around £75.

Or, book at the drs with someone other than the nurse if that is an option. But in all honesty, does it matter if it's someone you know? In many ways I'd think that was more comforting, having someone who you are familiar with. She'd be professional and it's all in a day's work for her.

Oh and no - BUPA won't pay for routine stuff like a smear. You'd have to pay for it.
