Hi guys,

So my problem is that I haven't had my period in 2 months! I know for a fact I'm not pregnant, as I've been tested for it and it came back negative, which was about a month a ago! But during these 2 months I've had a show, which I assumed was the start of my period, but nothing have come since! Back in September I had tonsillitis and I missed a month which I wasn't worried about because every time I have had tonsillitis I've always missed a period. But this month I am completely fine and healthy!

Also my period with in the past year haven't been regular, for example, at the beginning of the year I had them every 2 weeks, then every month, then every 6 weeks and to now where I haven't had a period in over 2 months!

I've phoned up the doctors and the office lady asked me what the problem was so she could Jot it down on the system, I explained it to her and she said it's a waste of booking an appointment as I wasn't actually ill, and somthing like I had to be on my period for then to check my bloods or somthing, I just don't know what to do now!

I have been thinking of going on the pills to regulate my periods but just had no idea where to start due to the situation previously.

What advice would u give me, thank you!!

Ignore the doctors receptionist and book an appointment with the doctor. If she ( receptionist) asks why say you’d rather not say.

totorosfluffytummy · 24/10/2018 10:43

Yes exactly what previous poster said.
Go to GP.
Don't discuss symptoms with receptionist.
Good luck

BillywigSting · 24/10/2018 10:46

The receptionist is, quite frankly, talking out of her arse.

Get a gp appointment, lie about what it's for if you have to. (I've had to do this to get past an idiot receptionist when I needed to see a Dr about my asthma, which only flares up in the winter so I don't renew my prescription often enough for the asthma nurse to give me what I need. I just said it was back pain because she kept referring me to the nurse who was just as cheesed off with the waste of time as I was)

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/10/2018 16:51

Do not give further details to the receptionist and I would concur she is talking out of her arse too.

Your periods have been irregular for quite some time and this problem is usually due to hormonal imbalances. A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days or with less than 4 days of variation from month to month. Blood tests can be done to look for such hormonal imbalances but you certainly do not have to be on your period for this to be done. Infact such tests can be done according to calendar days if the cycle is irregular. A common cause of irregular periods is polycystic ovaries. It is therefore important that you find the cause of your menstrual irregularity.

The pill will give you a bleed each month BUT it will mask the symptoms of any underlying hormonal problem.

Good advice here. Go to your GP if only for reassurance. She will organise blood tests for you. It's probably nothing serious, I and lots of others never really had regular periods and any upset in life caused them to stop for a while but there was nothing wrong with me. I hope it's the same for you. Flowers
