Menstrual cups

I'm sure it's been asked before but I'm after suggestions in what cup to use. I've never used one and have never used tampons. I'm almost 40, have had two kids and my periods last for two days. Not heavy flow. I've used the quiz online but still confused!

There are loads. Too many to choose !

I've had mooncup and Eva cup and very much prefer Eva as it's softer. The size is fairly standard I think. If flow isn't too heavy you can go 12hrs with it in

Mooncup is more rigid and I found it uncomfortable.

They both have a stem. I've always cut them off for comfort.

Eva was less costly too. I have two 😊

I use and have only tried a mooncup & I like it. I do hold off changing it just cause it's mucky & a faff but still prefer it to pass/ tampons. Happy to create so much less waste & save money.
Couldn't go back

I have a dummy sterilising ball I use to store & clean mine it's brill

What a great idea to use one of those sterilising balls. I used a jam jar which isn't that discreet in the bathroom

bigfootfred · 06/10/2018 21:34

Yeh saw it on Lidl special once and had a ah ha moment lol

Bigheadache · 06/10/2018 21:38

What a brilliant idea to use a jam jar or dummy thing! How are you cleaning/sterilising them?

TheVortex · 06/10/2018 21:40

I wash with soap.

Usually hand soap at the sink then rinse and put in solution of Milton via the tablets.

Have a look at putacupinit.com

There's a quiz. It's American but most of the brands are available on Amazon.co.uk

I have a mooncup but I've been having trouble with it leaking so just bought a Lena Sensitive recommended by the website.

I have a Me Luna and Yuuki I prefer the Yuuki as it's softer it also comes with a pot to store it when not in use and for microwave sterilisation I have the biggest you can get as I have very very heavy periods, I used to flood super plus tampons after an hour, I have to empty my cup after 4 hours on my heaviest flo days, but after a couple of months of using the cup my periods were less painful and I feel much more confident leaving the house. Best decision I made and I will not go back to tampons ever.

Ruby cup is my favourite, I tried a few but the Ruby cup is so comfortable Smile

I've got a sckoon cup that suits me. It's a good idea to feel where your cervix is when you are menstruating (it moves down during this time, so no point have a feel for it at other times). Then you know how long a cup you need. The other consideration is how good your muscle tone is, a softer cup will feel more comfortable but will squash if you're very toned (think horse rider, for example). So a firmer cup will open more easily inside you, but some people find it pushes on their bladders, while other people find softer cups more difficult to open. If you go for a softer cup, i run mine under the cold tap for a minute which stiffens it up a bit. You can also try different folds which pop open better. Join the fb group menstrual cups worldwide for very useful info. I highly recommend you get one though - they're brilliant! (And i speak as one who could not bear the thought of a tampon and never used one).
