Question about coil fitting

I spoke to my GP a while back about possibly having a coil fitted - she said you have to have it fitted whilst you are on your period 🤔 I had never heard of that before? I have PCOS and so take the contraceptive pill to regulate and reduce flow but would like to try the mirena coil to see if that helps - does anyone know how long into the period you have to be - all sounds a bit gross doing it whilst being on 😲

I was told at any point during your cycle but that it's easier during you period as your cervix is softer, by the nurse when I went about the coil back in June.

I've had it done during my period and in between, it doesn't make much difference. It's like a sustained menstrual cramp for a few mins (although weirdly when i had a lumbar puncture earlier this year, the sensation reminded me of the coil insertion.

The bonus of having it fitted whilst on your period is 1, we know you’re not pregnant and 2, the cervical os is open slightly which can make fitting easier.

I had one fitted while not on my period and no one ever mentioned that I should have it fitted during my period.

It is supposed to be easier on your period, more lubricant & bettering position of your cervix. I’d certainly give it a go if I were to have it fitted again, anything which makes it less painful! Despite the pain (write off the rest of the day once you’ve had it fitted!) it’s the best decision I’ve ever made, eased my period symptoms, improved my skin & nomore to taking the pill every day Smile

All four of mine have been great but i'm having to have mine removed as i have a fibroid that is pushing it out of place.

You can have it fitted at any point during your cycle so long as there isn't a pregnancy risk. Your GP has given you the wrong information on this occasion I am afraid.
