Postpartum catheters

Hi all
I gave birth 3 weeks ago with a epidural, episiotomy and then had to have a operation to remove my retained placenta. I have since had trouble weeing, 2 weeks ago I was initially diagnosed with a serious UTI and again last week the hospital said the same thing and changed my antibiotics as it didn’t seem to be clearing up. On Sunday it was discovered there was no infection and in fact I have bladder retention and after passing a small amount of urine a further 500mls was expelled using an in/out catheter. I’ve now been sent home for two weeks with a catheter bag to help my overstressed bladder recover in the hope it will return to norm after a break. I’m obviously very upset about this and emotional about trying to look after a newborn with a wee bad (thank god for my mum!)
I was wondering if anyone had a similar story and if so most importantly how was it emptying your bowels? I feel like I need to go and have been given suppositories but I have read emptying bowels/straining can cause catheters to leak at the entry point which I’m now paranoid about!
Any advice will be welcomed with opened arms!

After a speedy 2 hour labour I had to self catheterise for a year after bladder trauma.
Managed a 'normal' life though always needed a mirror to do it!! Never got infections, though sometimes a bit tender.
Even went camping and managed!
Had more dc since and all was fine.

similar ish - during c section they accidentally cut my bladder so needed a catheter for 10 days for bladder to heal, but then my bladder wasn't voiding properly so i had another flip / flow one to help train my bladder back in to working properly
Benefit of the wee bag was when the baby falls asleep on you, you don't need to move to go to the loo ;)

No problems going for a poo, but the c section stopped me from straining too hard. I don't think it will leak, you would have to push very hard!

After the 16 days or so it was a bit sore, but no infections.

2 years on and i am totally fine.
