Vaginal prolapse

Having visited the doctor 3 weeks postpartum due to an infection I have been told I have a prolapse. I was truly horrified and having spent most of the day in tears I now want to try and help repair using exercise and avoid any sort of surgery. Does anyone have experience of this?? Tia

Ask for a referral to a women's health Physio!!

AniseedBall · 22/09/2018 12:43

What did you doctor advise? They should refer you to a specialist Women's Physio who can help with pelvic floor exercises and other advice re exercise and lifestyle. Many people manage prolapses well with Physio and lifestyle changes.

Thanks, she basically said if it's not bothering you do nothing but I'm concerned if I do nothing it will only get worse. Really good to hear that exercises usually help manage as I'm terrified of the prospect of surgery

I had this after DD birth Nov 2016..i knew something was wrong and was determined to get help but it took 4 months for GP to do anything. (I told him I was having issues and he looked at me, scanned me from top to bottom and promptly declared that "You look fine from the outside so I haven't got any concerns" - what a joke. ) And so I eventually got physio through a referral. Best thing ever. The lady physio was very gentle and kind and she gave me some gentle excersies that really worked. Within 3 weeks I noticed such a huge difference. So, it's ok xxxx I cried too. But dont worry, none of this is your fault at all, and there is every chance you won't need surgery or ANYTHING drastic like that. If you are only 3 weeks postpartum though I would encourage you to still rest as much as you can. I was on my feet way too quick and although i felt good at the time it really made my prolapse worse without me knowing it. But dont worry mama x you haven't done anything wrong and it can all be ok Flowers If it helps, after my DS was born I never got it at all and had a great recovery xxxxxx

Hey Bexmun, I’m in a similar boat in that I have a moderate prolapse since childbirth 8 months ago I’ve only just gone to be checked as I always knew something felt different.. the gyne has referred me to physio which I am yet to start but she said that it is so normal to have and in a great majority of people within two years after birth you should be much nearer to normal again naturally but the physio will speed it up! Hope this makes you feel better as it did me! x

I would request a referral for physio and then depending on what the physio says see a gynaecologist - many GP's have little experience in this area and three weeks is too soon to predict future problems .

Thank you so much wise mamas! I feel much more positive and very much appreciate your wise words xx

Also if your gp won't refer you, you can self refer in most areas
After years of being fobbed off I referred myself using an online form
Best decision ever!

If funds allow you could pay to see a private women's health Physio as they often have shorter waiting times!
