Periods after kids

Hello, just after advice regarding periods/hormones. For reference I am 33 and I have a 5 & 3 yo. Before kids my periods were always 28 days apart exactly, 7 days long and very heavy. Had my first child and breast fed for six months, when she was 14 months old I was pregnant with my son. I don’t really remember what my periods were like during stopping breast feeding and getting pregnant. After having my second child I breastfed for a few months and when I stopped my periods returned but they were 14 days long and extremely heavy for seven of those days. This had been going on and on with other associated health issues that all slowly resolved themselves, apart from the long periods. GP said stress/hormonal imbalance after three years of these crazy periods I went private and doc did various blood tests and eventually suggested hystereoscopy to have a better look. NHS appointment tried to do it under local and couldn’t get it through my cervix, want to do it under general anaesthetic (this scares me to be honest) anyway, on waiting list for this and suddenly my period has reverted back to a normal length, the last two have been five days. It’s been nearly four years of crazy periods and now they’ve just snapped back, should I not have the hystereoscopy now and just accept it was a hormone/stress thing for nearly 4 years that has suddenly and coincidently resolves itself? And is it normal that my periods are now five days and much lighter than they were before I had kids? Or is this peri menopause at 33? Looking for your experiences of periods after kids and if having kids changed them I guess. Thanks
