Endo & life after laparoscopy

Hi

If you had endometriosis and had a laparoscopy, what is life like now? Did it come back? Was it worth having a laparoscopy?

It kind of was - to get a diagnosis.

But my symptoms didn’t really die down so I had a hysterectomy a few months later. My lab report showed adenomyosis which may explain things. I am only five weeks post op but definitely feel better (and no more horrendous periods)!

@Myboyamelie thanks, I'm pleased to hear you are feeling better. I don't have the option for a hysterectomy but I'm concerned about the recovery time post laparoscopy, especially if they don't find anything. How was your recovery post laparoscopy?

It was fine really - I stayed in hospital two nights but it’s normally a day procedure. I had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic which kept me in a night and then the beast from the east came which meant they wouldn’t discharge as too risky to travel. I was in a private hospital so it was amazing!

I was driving quite soon after. I took a fortnight off work on advice of the doctor. I think that was more than enough.

In my opinion it’s torally worth it but only if you get it done by a true excision specialist (of which there are not many in the U.K.) - I had my stage 4 endo excised nearly 10 years ago now and have remained endo free. I have had some issues with adhesions but nothing compared with the problems I had before. I had a couple of laps by non specialists and other than getting a diagnosis they were totally pointless and actually made me worse.

@welshweasel goodness! How do I find a true excision specialist?

I've suffered with endo & PCOS for 15 years. My 1st lap was diagnosis the other 2 was to try to laser off the endo but as it's everywhere it didn't work. I was in constant agony 7 days a week so I've resorted to having a Zolodex injection which shuts everything down sending me into the menopause at 42.
Endo is an awful disease it has ruined my life Zolodex is my last resort before a hysterectomy. Even this wouldn't cure me unless they take my stomach and bowel out!!!
Go for the lap but be warned it probably will return.
